The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) has set up a training program for security officers who fly armed on commercial flights. The reason for this is the increasing threat of global terrorist violence.

Forty air force officers participate in the program, which started on August 1 and lasts one month. The soldiers are specially selected. The training consists of theory and practice and includes shooting and simulation training. The training must comply with the rules of the ICAO, the aviation agency of the UN.

The intention is that the 'airmarshals' are deployed on high-risk flights or flights to countries where the presence of security personnel is desirable.

According to a source, the security officers have been deployed on commercial flights in the past, but then they were not allowed to be armed.
