A 20-year-old minibus driver on Koh Samui has been arrested for attempting to rape two Dutch tourists after returning from a Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan.

De Thai young man denies the accusation but admitted that he fought with the two women because he was under the influence of drugs.

Police received a report of an attempted rape at 4:50 a.m. local time. It concerned two women from the Netherlands, aged 28 and 27. The two tourists stayed at the Nova Samui Hotel on Koh Samui.

On the evening of October 30, the women bought ferry tickets including taxi transport from a booking office to go to the Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan. Afterwards they were picked up by the suspect driver in a minivan. There were still 5 to 6 foreigners in the van who were first dropped off at their hotel. After that, the driver did not drive straight to the hotel of the two women, but drove to a remote place near Bophut.

After parking the van, he attacked the women. She resisted violently and screamed for help. The suspect then fled in the van.

After they escaped, they managed to alert the police. The police quickly tracked down the taxi driver and arrested him at home. After a confrontation, the women confirmed that he was the perpetrator.

The suspect denies that he tried to rape the women. He did admit that he had fought with the women because he said he had used drugs and was therefore quite agitated. A drug test showed that the man had taken drugs.

The suspect remains in custody and will be prosecuted.
