Into the thermometers Thailand seem defective. With some regularity the temperatures stay at 20 degrees and that is very cold for the time of year.

The nights are also particularly cool. The mercury drops to three to five degrees Celsius in large parts of the country at night.

Weather is quite upset. According to the Thai meteorological service, a low pressure area is active. Yesterday it was downright cold in Bangkok with only 19 degrees. Even in the south it didn't get warmer than 22 degrees.

The Northeast (Isan) of the country is cloudy and remains between 18-20 degrees. In the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima, the mercury fell to 16,1 degrees yesterday.

A meteorologist in northern Thailand reported a nighttime temperature of just 7,8 degrees at Doi Inthanon in Chiang Mai. The forecast is that the cold wave will come to an end on Thursday.

Heavy rain and wind in the south

The south of Thailand, including Phuket and Koh Samui, has been dealing with heavy rainfall, wind and flooding for some time now. Even air traffic was stopped for tourists beaches.

Heat returns

April/May are the hottest months in Thailand. Songkran is celebrated on April 13. The temperature can then rise to 39-40 degrees. Meteorologists expect as scorching heat as usual. April 17 is expected to be the warmest day of the year, when the sun can shine unobstructed. Only dense clouds can then provide the necessary cooling.

It is now 09.45 in the morning and the outside thermometer shows 21 degrees.
There is also a sea breeze so it feels even colder.
Saw the images on the news this morning about the situation in the south, unbelievable what a situation, a bunch of crocodiles had escaped from a farm, and not those little ones either.
They already had 2 of them, the rest are probably swimming around in the town, you're nice with them, those people walk around in the water up to their waists to save their stuff and then those animals around you.

At the moment I am staying near Roi Et and yesterday we had the coldest day. You expect heat in this period, but even I have put on my coat the last few days and instead of walking in shorts I put on my jeans.
The weather is clearly upset, but according to the forecast for the coming days, the “weather” will return to “normal” values up to about 40 degrees. For me it was a bit strange to be cold even here 🙂

We are currently in Hua Hin and have been coming to Thailand for quite a few years, also in March, but I have never experienced this. If you're escaping the cold in the Netherlands, you're blue-mouthed here. Yes, it will get better from Thursday, they say …………that will help me. Friday we fly back to the cold Netherlands. Bad luck, shall we say.

On Saturday the weather here will be 20 degrees warm for Dutch standards.
Still a lot of fun in HH, we have been coming there for years, we have just been back in Ned for 2 weeks.
      Have a nice trip………..

Intermediate trip to Bangkok. Lovely 19 C. Finally walking around at ease without sweat dripping down your back. People rush in on the major shopping streets and entertainment districts. The air conditioning in shops and bars is warmer than it is outside.

Sorry, but this reasoning is not applicable now…

If it was 7,8 degrees on the highest mountain peak in Thailand, it is colder nowhere else…

The weather has indeed never been seen, but today it was already much better in Chiangmai

It sounds a bit strange, but Thailand's highest peak, Doi Inthanon, is not the coldest in winter. The lowest temperatures occur in the mountains of Loei. This is because air of polar origin can flow freely into Thailand via Mongolia and China through the valley of the Mekong. Phu Rua showed 4,2 C on top of the mountain yesterday. In the north, this cold current is slowed down by some mountain ranges.

The real problem is not the low pressure area, but the high pressure area that normally lies over southern China has expanded strongly over northern Thailand and is triggering a strong northeasterly flow of cold air from the north. A low pressure area in this position would create a flow from the south or southwest with air from the Gulf of Thailand or the Andaman Sea and the air is never colder than 26 degrees. For clarity, take a look at the reflection of Thai Meteorological Department. This service made a long-term forecast for the hot period. From mid-March to mid-April it would be very hot. Well we knew that.

experienced this in 1992, had to borrow extra blankets from an acquaintance.
I was really chattering teeth at a temperature of 17 degrees
Unbelievable, if you say this to friends in NL, they won't believe you.
