Thais in the south have ties to IS
A report from the Australian police, which is investigating the radical Islamic groups, that a number of Thais in the south have contacts with the terrorist group IS, appears to be correct. The Thai police confirmed for the first time that "some Thais" in the South have ties and also support IS.
These individuals regularly travel back and forth between Thailand and Syria. There is also a lot of interest in IS propaganda material. For example, 100.000 Thai Facebook users viewed messages from IS. The Thai sympathizers of IS live in seven southern provinces.
The Central Investigation Bureau and the intelligence services are conducting further investigations into the persons linked to IS. Prime Minister Prayut says that the authorities are busy identifying the suspects and taking measures. If necessary, people will be arrested preventively.

Earlier this week it was reported that tourism from China has fallen sharply, potentially causing problems for a number of airlines. It was not stated which companies it might or might be involved.
Now people are talking about 7 southern provinces. Here, too, it is not said which provinces are involved. We can now use the atlas or maps to find out which 7 Thai provinces are the most southerly. But whether that would really be those provinces? The message refers to 7 (random) southern provinces. So Phuket could also be part of that…
I would really appreciate if this information could be more specific. Of course Thailandblog can not change this and probably not the source from which this information comes. I mean, of course, that the Thai politicians give far too vague information as far as I am concerned.
Are tourists now supposed to book their flights at their own risk and visit certain provinces at their own risk? Do the Thai politicians act as they did at the Dutch embassy and shake off all responsibility?
I'm going to be very scared to travel to Thailand! It reminds me of my daughters mockery of the name of the Thai capital. Bangkok.
You visit all of Thailand 'at your own risk'.
Which 7 provinces they are is not interesting for a tourist, as long as there is no increased danger. In the Netherlands, the government also does not indicate in which provinces people who have ties with IS live.
For the safety situation, it is best to use the travel advice of the Dutch government. There you see that there are safety risks throughout the country, and that unnecessary travel is discouraged in the four southernmost provinces, among others. On the map you can see both the location and the names of the relevant provinces.

Terrible. Where can you still be free!
In Greenland I think.
And in addition, I never read anything about Laos, which means that this is a peaceful, social and pleasant country for the residents. Because I never hear a negative message about it. And the advantage is that they understand Thai and I never read about problems for foreigners regarding visas or staying in Laos. In short, Laos may be the 2nd Thailand.
Today, the Bangkok Post states that Thai police have not found any evidence to support the Australian police's claim so far.
I read it differently: Deputy Police Commissioner Srivara says there is so far no evidence of financial support from Thai to the Islamic State group. No indications of IS activities in the country have been found either. The information provided by Australia is under further investigation.
