The Thai-Belgian Friendship Bridge on Rama IV Road in Bangkok, which was damaged by a fire under the bridge, is open again for half (towards Silom). The opening only applies to passenger vehicles.

The bridge was damaged on Tuesday morning by a fire in a garbage storage of Pathumwan district office under the bridge. As a result, some steel girders were damaged. The beams warped when water was sprayed on to extinguish the fire.

The left lane will reopen on Monday, but the right lane will remain closed until repairs are completed, which is likely to take up to 30 days. Experts have advised to install additional supports.

The municipality is now going to remove garbage barrels from under other bridges to prevent the same problem.
