A composite drawing of the escaped terrorist

It is and remains a strange story that terrorists would want to commit an attack in Bangkok. In itself, the thought of an attack is not strange; it is a place where millions of people live together. But the course of events surrounding one arrested and one escaped Hezbollah supporter raises eyebrows.

The authorities are tumbling over each other with contradictory and confusing statements, of course with Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung, in charge of national security, as the usual protagonist. First the warning is given that an act of terrorism is imminent, followed by the statement that it is not all that serious.

If we are to believe what actually happened, we see the following. Two Lebanese, also with a Swedish passport, have been living in one since the end of last year hotels at Khao San Road. On Friday, January 13 (!) the police raided their room, and both men managed to escape. One of them is apprehended at Suvarnabhumi airport, the other just flies away. A strange thing. For starters, how do the men manage to escape from their hotel? They probably couldn't take their luggage with them. Surely that should arouse suspicion when checking in on an SUV? Did they already book a ticket for that day? Wanted them together journey? Their names are known. Then Immigration could have stopped that one man, like they do with a few days overstay, right?

The state of affairs produces a load of questions, which will probably never be answered. Except that everything is under control and the citizens can go to sleep peacefully. Americans, Israelis and Dutch people have been warned to avoid crowded places Thailand and avoid Bangkok in particular. How do you do that? Every Sky Train is a busy place, right? Not to mention shopping centers, museums and even buses and hotels.

An impossible task, therefore, only intended to provide a false sense of impossible security. Places where many Israelis gather? There is only one: Koh Phangan. Security has now been tightened on Khao San Road, but also in Pattaya. Just to name a busy place. There is nothing to report about Hua Hin, because nothing ever happens there.

This is typically another American/Israeli stunt by speaking of a threat to win over stupid propaganda souls for the coming war against Iran (because they support Hezbollah). Don't care, scaremongering of the "you keep screwing me"

Yes I agree with this. Terrorism does exist but it is maybe only 10% of what we are talked into and how we are used in a dirty and mean game. Media is a form of brain-numbing Terrorism.

Environmental activism or are you screaming in an airport with Down syndrome, you fall under Terrorism.

“They protect us but we have never been so scared?”

Hitler also hammered on Terrorism from across the border and set fire to his own parliament building and blamed the Terrorists for his act.
Google it: Zeitgeis the Movie… It's very nicely made and it can never be that this is all nonsense if you think about it a bit (start by watching part 1 and take your time it takes 2 hours).

And for the people who have already seen it. Yes I think idd: Bush did the same with the Twin Towers is my opinion and we just swallow it and swallow it. Talking into the masses through the media circus, terrorterrorterror, repeat and repeat and 99% eventually believe it.

      BAH!

I'm probably part of that 1% that's crazy then. Fine! 😀

      Good Regards Tino

The comparison with a person with Down syndrome makes no sense. These people are so often mentioned in a wrong, negative context. As a mother of a child with Down syndrome, this pains me every time.

        • MCVeen says up

Sorry in your case, but with every example I address someone. I myself have a serious incurable condition but rare so it makes no sense to mention.

It doesn't apply to you or your child but it does make sense, what I'm saying in general is that now with Terrorism they are lumping together that's what it makes sense. Just like an environmentalist is soon a terrorist. Even innocent people have already been arrested and mistreated, used as scapegoats or just a "mistake" working hard against Terrorism.

See if you still say it when you're under the rubble of the Hezbollah attack.

Dear Fluminis, and Mr/Mrs Veen, it seems to me to dismiss a terrorism threat as an American/Israeli stunt is, to put it popularly, mildly stupid.
Certainly the Israeli “BVD” is usually very sure of its case, and, unfortunately, is often right.
Mossad/Shin Beit reports are usually taken very seriously by most governments, including many Arab ones (yes).

Exercising some caution after receiving such a warning is quite appropriate, while dismissing it as a stunt because this report originated in Israel is not really useful.
It seems to me that the combination of 2 passports, Arabic, and the hasty attempts to leave the hotel and Thailand should give any sane person something to think about.

Of course, indeed, you never hear many reports, especially because the number of arrests of people with potentially bad ideas prevents a lot of misery.
Yes, many of these reports come from America, England, Russia and Israel.
Fortunately, there are still people who take these reports seriously.

Dear Hans: I wouldn't want to put it off like that. In fact, I don't doubt this case at all. Simply because I don't know and know that I don't know.
I do doubt the extent of Terrorism and fortunately I am not alone in this.

What I dare say is that if we don't question anything and just assume everything we're used in a dirty game that's been going on for a long time.
I know people who were at 9/11 and heard the bombs explode before a plane hit. People don't talk about this. People don't talk about a lot and yes they all take it seriously, but not everything is always true and you don't just know the setup of the "BVD" and "CIA" by reading newspapers. When we talk about Israel and the US I prefer to listen to a “Noam Chomsky”.

I can't go far enough in terms of security at airports or elsewhere. it would only happen to you, then you can no longer say, another typical stunt by the Americans!

  3. Caro says up

What struck me is the silence of the Thai media, including nation and bangkok post.
Censorship or too disruptive for tourism?

    • Friso says up

I was the first to break the news for several people in Thailand. They knew nothing, heard nothing and therefore had no idea.. Authorities stated that they did not want to cause panic. Makes sense, but I think that the warning from the Americans has already caused enough controversy to at least shake up the rest of the world. Now Thailand itself.

      • Marco says up

The soap on TV goes before the news @ Friso. Surely that should be clear by now?

    • KrungThep says up

It was reported quite quickly in the Bangkok Post….I did not watch The Nation…..

  4. Friso says up

Now it is clear yes. Only had the idea that the Americans were faster than the Thai authorities.

  5. Johnny says up

In this respect, the Thai are very down-to-earth people. Don't get scared or panic easily. Moreover, there is little reason to commit an attack against the Thai, who have no real opinion on foreign policy.

  6. Hans van den Pitak says up

There was a contingent of Thais in Iraq! (1 dead and one seriously injured) And the Muslims in the south would probably not be averse to some help from abroad in other places in Thailand. They can continue to operate in the area themselves.
