'Songkran holiday may be held in July'
The government is considering the possibility of introducing a long holiday period in July to still celebrate Songkran. However, the condition is that the number of new infections with Covid-19 remains low.
Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) spokesperson Taweesilp Visanuyothin said yesterday that such a thing is a serious option: "July can be a great month to still celebrate the Songkran New Year's Eve".
The government has postponed the regular Thai New Year holiday from April 13-15 until further notice because large events with large crowds were not desirable due to the virus outbreak. The fall in the number of new infections and deaths and the lifting of the state of emergency makes it possible to still celebrate Songkran, which is good for boosting domestic tourism.

How does the Thai people want to pay for that, or the government should give them some money.
The majority, especially in the Isan, do not even have money to eat.
As long as there are no tourists or very difficult to get here, there is still no work for them.
Hans van Mourik
I live in Isaan myself and what surprises me, Hans, is that I see everyone renovating or new houses springing up like mushrooms. Since the lockdown, I have hardly been able to buy galvanized steel. I see everyone around me clearing their land of trees and weeds. I think there is still enough money here.
Just as the easing of the lockdown starts, people start planning days off. Why didn't I see that coming? This is Thailand: the days off must and will be consumed.
Ridiculous. For several months, the Thai have no money for food and drink. And now just throw money / water over the bar….
Just back to work for now, without parties.
The money is better spent on school fees than on alcohol.
Too few road deaths in recent months... Now what if we organize Songkran?
I secretly hoped it wouldn't happen again this year.
Here in Chiang Mai it is not fun to celebrate Songkran, people are just crazy and think anything is possible. The number of drunks and accidents is therefore incalculable.
Well, I'll stay inside for 5 days, I'm already used to the lockdown and curfew.
Goodbye,
What a foolish idea to let people celebrate who have little or no money due to the too strict measures of the same government.
I expected the schools to open in July. Do they have to close again despite the learning delay?
To celebrate Songkran now is also exaggerated. First an overly strict lock down and then all of a sudden all freedom.
Good for school youth, so who should be able to learn not too much and later also an extra week off.
And despite the fact that we already have too few Covid victims here, we have to increase this number considerably by once again sending the entire population back on the road as kamikaze pilots.
How do they come up with it.
Jan Beute.
Gates and Soros and 5G are behind this of course, really!
But all joking aside, I think it's crazy to celebrate a late Songkran.
