Sex massage parlors threaten Spa's image
The image of Thai spas is being trashed by massage parlors that provide sexual services under the name of a spa. According to Apichai Jearadisak, of the Federation of Thai Spa Associations (FTSPA), this happens in so-called 'pretty spas'. These salons are often owned by government officials and influential people. He calls on the authorities to take action against these abuses.
Spas in the medical and wellness sector are an important service for tourists. However, only 500 of the 2.000 spas are officially registered. The FTSPA expects the number of registered spas to increase significantly to differentiate themselves from the parlors with questionable names. The problem is that they fall under three different ministries: Health, which oversees the sector, and Trade and Tourism. The last two are not concerned with quality control.
The interest group of official Spas wants the government to really work on controlling the sector by setting requirements. It is also important to distinguish between real traditional Thai massage and the poor services that are provided on the beach and along the road, for example.

If you have little to do then a visit to a Spa is wonderful. I was also usually on a journey of discovery in Thailand and tested the possibilities and limits and indeed discovered that a masseuse is willing if she likes you, but only after 'closing time'. It is quite logical that they seize every opportunity to earn some extra money. If they were to go straight home, the children would be asleep anyway. It is somewhat embarrassing when you see the bank clerk with his friends enjoying themselves somewhere where you only come to find a lady for a bath and massage and can enjoy some 'extra service' for an additional fee. When I meet a lady on a dating site who says she works in a spa, I automatically think she will also be reimbursed for sex. That indeed has to do with the image, but the same thing happens in the Netherlands!
Come on, not so straight and not so sour.
Who says they are poor services? You can only judge that afterwards (assess:))
There are plenty of Spas in and outside the hotels in Thailand that offer good service in the real spa realm. There, everyone can enjoy a real spa treatment without special offers. Enjoy the Thai mud / oil / seaweed or the warm stones on your back and good relaxing facials. I think it's a pity that many Thailand visitors don't dare to go to something like this on their first or second trip because they have heard from the stories on the internet / acquaintances with travel experience that all Disneylands seem to be for men. Quite often I come across tourists who are struggling with all kinds of warnings from others to have a little fun on their vacation. Dare to eat alone in the hotel or to the Mac where they can eat world dishes from home, dare not take taxis or Tuktuks, Bangkok discos are bad, no massage, Not with the BTS because they only broadcast in Thai, not swimming because there a scary beast from the Thai jungle (read Lumpini Park) can show up in the swimming pool of their 5 star hotel. Or you get this or that garland poop. When it is dark you have to sit in your hotel room for your own safety and especially young Western women regularly struggle with those smiling Thai ladies who just smile at their boyfriends. But I can safely recommend an afternoon to a real Spa on a rainy afternoon or the day after arrival to relax from your holiday stress that you have incurred by telling your surroundings that you are going to Thailand.
