Prime Minister Prayut asks residents of the capital to leave their cars behind and opt for public transport, in order to do something about the smog and the dangerous fine dust can Bangkok held for weeks.

The prime minister was rather vague yesterday about the proposal to ban cars older than 10 years. It should be investigated first, he said. It was clear that he apparently does not want to take harsh measures that will affect Thai commuters (in view of the approaching elections?).

Prayut said that eight to nine thousand vehicles are checked every day. Polluting cars are given a warning sticker. Checkpoints have been set up on the six main routes into Bangkok to monitor trucks and buses coming from other provinces. The prime minister also asks to take pictures of vehicles emitting black smoke and share them on social media so that the authorities can act against it. According to him, buses that blow out black smoke will be removed from the timetable. Furthermore, the municipality of Bangkok is increasingly deploying drones against the smog

Prayoon, director of the Bangkok public transport company (BMTA), says they are encouraging the use of B20 diesel, a mix of 20 percent biodiesel and 80 percent regular diesel. Of the 2.075 buses in operation since mid-January, 815 buses are B20, the rest will use this fuel from today. According to Prayoon, this diesel can reduce the pollution of exhaust fumes from trucks older than 25 years by half.

  1. support says up

All together in the smoke-vomiting city buses and make sure you get a “warning sticker”, because that is – without a fine – a license to continue driving. And I'm sure these stickers don't mention a date of release. On the right track!!!
