The Phuket Tourism Sandbox project can continue on July 1 if at least 70% of the population has been vaccinated and herd immunity has been achieved. Foreign tourists can then travel to Phuket without the mandatory quarantine.

It seemed that things would go wrong with the supply of vaccines, but the government says it will do everything it can to reopen the holiday island to tourists. Health Minister Anutin and Tourism Minister Phiphat handed over 100.000 doses of vaccine at a meeting at Vachira Phuket Hospital yesterday to underline this.

However, more doctors and nurses must be called in to increase the vaccination rate. Private clinics are asked to provide staff for this.

Phiphat is convinced that the Sandbox can start on July 1. However, Phuket will not accept tourists from high-risk countries who have not been vaccinated. Deputy Governor Piyapong Chuwong says screening measures for travelers entering by land and air are being stepped up.

Tourists who are going to use the Sandbox must have had two injections and have undergone a rapid test (antigen test) beforehand. All travelers must download the Mor Chana mobile tracking app or register on the website www.gophuket.com.

It means that there are 4 conditions to enter Phuket: 1- you come from a non-risk country; 2- you have had 2 injections; 3- you have a positive antigen test result; 4- you register your vi app or online. That's not going to happen, I'm afraid.

I don't think the Netherlands (however strange?!) is a high-risk country?
These are namely 11 African areas

100.000 doses of Sinovac now, and 140.000 doses of AstraZeneca in the second week of June, for 2x 280.000 (= 70%) vaccinations - and then the waiting time between the 1st and 2nd vaccination…..
July 1 doesn't seem like a realistic date to me.
