One of the two Pandas on loan from the Chiang Mai Zoo, the male Xuang Xuang, died unexpectedly yesterday afternoon. Old age is probably the cause of death.

Pandas live an average of 14 to 20 years, in captivity they can sometimes live up to 30 years. Xuang Xuang turned 19 years old.

The pandas have been living at the Chiang Mai Zoo since 2003 and have been loaned by China until 2023. After artificial insemination, the Panda couple got a little panda, Lin Ping, who has already returned to China.

Unfortunately (!) I saw the pandas there once, they sat on two empty pieces of ground next to each other and one always walked the same round in a stressed way.. so sad!.
