One in three students in secondary education and one in five in primary schools are overweight. This has been established in an investigation by the Office of Private Education Commission and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation.

4.200 students in seven schools were surveyed. Sixty percent of children have too high a blood sugar level, which is a precursor to diabetes.

The researchers report that the children do not get enough exercise. Half of the children surveyed spend two or more hours a day in front of a computer, tablet or telephone playing video games or watching TV. Most children get less than an hour of exercise.
