A new replacement ambassador in Bangkok
You may remember that the Dutch ambassador to Thailand, HE Karel Hartogh, was temporarily replaced by another experienced diplomat, Mr. Paul Menkveld, due to illness.
I met Paul Menkveld, who used to be ambassador in South Korea, among other things, at the embassy on election day and would have liked to interview him for Thailandblog.nl, but the temporary nature of his stay in Bangkok made us both decide not to. doing. “I am only from the fire brigade in an emergency”, he said, “I will return the baton to Karel as soon as possible”.
And indeed, the presence of Mr. Paul Menkveld is required elsewhere and will leave Thailand again. Our ambassador now writes on his Facebook page:
“Many thanks to Paul Menkveld who replaced me with great enthusiasm in recent months and who is returning to the Netherlands today. In a few weeks, Harry Molenaar, CdP in Kuala Lumpur until last summer, will take over the observation, until the end of September at the latest. Hopefully (but more clarity about that only around the summer) I can return to the post myself afterwards”.
Let's hope that Karel Hartogh himself returns to his best after the end of September and does not have to be temporarily replaced again. We wish him all the best and get well soon!
I understood that with ZE the ambassador the chemotherapy did not work and they had switched to immune therapy.
If it does catch on, we will all shoot a very big hole in the air.
Of joy.
Very sad to hear but we know you will get back to your post soon. Good luck dear Karel Hartogh.

Karel Hartogh, may Light, Strength and Love be yours to return to your post in good health!
We know you get well Mr Hartogh.
