Dutch tourist raped on Krabi
A 19-year-old Dutch tourist was raped on Krabi on Saturday night.
The woman was with her Dutch boyfriend in a bar in Ao Nang, but after an argument she walked back to her accommodation alone. On the way, she was attacked by a man and raped. She resisted fiercely and received a number of blows from the man. The Thai police suspect a 30-year-old man from Surat Thani and expect to arrest him soon, Thai media report.
The woman was taken care of by local residents and took her to the local hospital at night, where she was treated. She was allowed to leave the hospital the next day. The Dutch embassy in Bangkok has been notified.
This I read with horror. When I follow the messages from Thailand lately, it doesn't make me any happier. Is this because of the westernization or what is this due to. I have been coming to Thailand for 24 years now, but my opinion is that things have (unfortunately) not improved.

“On the Thai island of Krabi”?? A nasty and sad story, of course. I've been to Ao Nang once and would think it's busy enough there that bystanders could have helped her?
Been to Krabi and Ao nang in April, but as far as I know both places are not on an island, but on the mainland.
Frits,
Yes it is sad again, and if you read the message on nu.nl and here on Thailand blog.
Yes, I also sailed from Krabi town to the well-known Phi Phi islands! And Koh krabi is also unknown to me.
That is actually quite close to each other, and indeed on the mainland…
Indeed, Krabi is not an island but a province with the capital Krabi.
Ao Nang is located on the mainland and is no more than a boulevard.
At the end of the boulevard there are 10 Go Go Bars (very small-scale) in a U-shape, further just a ribbon of tourist shops and restaurants, the beach is not much for that you have to go to Kho Phi Phi or the many other Bounty Islands can be reached by longtail boat, tickets for which are available diagonally (right) opposite the Go-Go bars on the bend of the road.
Indeed, beautiful coastline, really beautiful to see once.
Also watch out for those fishermen, who often try to sell you weed, and later you will get a knock at your door with a bat.
Ko Phi Phi must once have been bounty-like, and of course it still is in terms of design, Raily Beach and so very beautiful. But completely hunted to the sharks for the benefit of tourism.
Cottage mutje full, really packed, I quickly left 2 days was enough for me ...
I don't like what happened, but I don't know if things will get worse for our beloved Thailand...
Look around you. Horrible things happen all over the world and Thailand would be an exception?

@Sjaak,
Am I reading this right?
Moderator: The moderator was asleep, apologies. Jack's response has been corrected. Too crazy for words.
@ Moderator,
Glad you're awake again, apologies received with a big heart!
Reports of murders, rapes, thefts, etc. usually only have a short-term effect, but if there are constant reports about this in the media, Thailand – I think – has a problem. See also News from Thailand of 1 August about a tourism image study.
Although Thailand can be a violent country for Thais among themselves, I believe that it is relatively safe for tourists.
As sad as this girl is, it doesn't happen often that this happens to Western women.
Just think of the holiday camp with children in Mexico a few weeks ago, robbed and raped, this would be unthinkable in Thailand, and a massive manhunt would certainly ensue.
I know enough streets in the Netherlands where it is better not to show as a woman after certain hours.
I think you are much safer in BKK than in Amsterdam.
I agree with you Thailand is very doable for female tourists, and also quite safe if you behave normally.
You remain a guest at all times.
I once met a woman on a train covered in scratches and bumps. Turns out she had been pelted with stones and chased out of the village.
No idea what that good person had been up to 🙂
A female Farang being raped there by a Thai, I'm surprised. but yeah maybe he was on the Ya ba or something. A matter of bad luck, at the wrong place at the wrong time…..unfortunately.
What a horrible story, I hope she recovers soon. Although she is scarred for life. But her boyfriend will (rightly or not, in my opinion) also suffer from a leaden conscience. There are also rapists in Thailand, just as there are in the Netherlands. If a rapist wants to rape someone on purpose, they will. Regardless of the country.. So just be on the lookout! (Reminds me that if I ever get into a fight with my girlfriend I have to do everything I can to not let her go home alone)
I am the father of the girl who was raped..thanks for your comments…although I don't quite understand the discussion about whether or not an island is involved..However, 1 thing is not reported..Of course there are rapists everywhere..but if something like this happens in the Netherlands .. the perpetrator is seriously hunted until they catch him. In our case, the perpetrator's sister (who is therefore known to the police) comes after a visit to my daughter
with the story out that she offered her money to withdraw the statement.
That seems to be quite normal, but if someone can offer money to my daughter, she can also offer money to the police not to arrest the rapist.
What are the facts: The Dutch embassy is trying to keep the Thai police and authorities under pressure to arrest the perpetrator. We try to keep things sharp with local journalists and as a musician I have sought cooperation with the Thai Reaggea band Job 2 Do…to release a song about this case…Thanks again for your comments..spread the news..the perpetrator is the brother of the owner of the Coconut Bar in Au Nang..he is from Surat Thani and just walks still free around..thanx
Cees Koldijk
Cees,
I can only wish you every success in this nasty and very bad business. I hope they catch that guy, but I think it's going to be very difficult.
Do not give up the fight, the more attention, the greater the pressure on him, and those who support him.
With regards
January
I also wish you personally a lot of strength and strength and especially sadder when people know who the perpetrator is. Shows once again how corrupt the police are… But everyone already knows that, except the Minister of the Interior, who has no “idea”
Incomprehensible indeed, but unfortunately not uncommon in 'the land of smiles'. Lots of strength and success!
Hello Mr. Koldijk.
I live and work in the relaxbay resort on Koh lanta island. It is very bad what happened to your daughter. Most Thais are not like that. But when it happens, the local police usually do nothing. However, it is wonderful that you have made your wise protest. It is the talking point on the island and in Krabi they are certainly not happy about it. Thailand does everything to sell itself as a filthy holiday destination. Country of 1000 smiles.
Now it is the case that in Thailand the State is not a prosecutor. That's the victim's family. It is therefore normal that the perpetrator's family offers a sum to drop the complaint. Strange but true. They can also pay the police, but with your action it will be more difficult for the police to be bribed. I know of a case where someone was fatally injured in the abdominal area during a bar fight. The family, who had influence, wanted 2.000.000 THB from the perpetrator's family. He could not pay and ended up in prison. After 2 years, the perpetrator's family renegotiated and eventually 1.000.000 THB was paid. The charges were dropped and the man was released. Strange but true. You can kill someone here and buy your freedom. The price depends on who you are and how you can make an impact. I don't know how much influence you can exert, but it pays to keep up the pressure. But beware, an amicable settlement where the local government (police) does not lose face may help things. Not all Thais are like that, and the man will no doubt be in serious trouble from some of his fellow compatriots.
I wish your daughter and your family all the best. If you wish, I can possibly check with the local police, as one of my acquaintances used to be an officer with the Tourist police in Ao nang. He's an honest man.
Dear Cees
Good action Cees super man. Continue until it is stuck.
These thugs think they can get away with anything with impunity.
What a great idea to approach it this way. you hit the Thai in his wallet they hate that. I hope many will follow you and also announce what happened to them via the internet (YouTube}
I like Thailand for that. It is of course not something that only happens in Thailand. Although I've been reading a lot of stuff like that about Thailand lately. That's why I hope you keep going until he's stuck and thus sends a signal to the rest of the scum
With best regards, Kees
Still responding, we have been to Krabbi several times for a week.
Always walked here alone at night, the traffic police, AO-Nang M 2 T.AO-Nang A.muang is always there.
I have also seen these police on night rounds several times.
Normally Krabbi is a resting point after traveling through beautiful Thailand,
and little happens.
It is a pity that there are now so many negative sounds due to derailed weather.
Too bad Rotterdam is really much more dangerous at night
Dear Ruud Rotterdam
I already had my verdict on that Judge who sent the suspects home just like that. And thought yes, he has done a bit of money, that's how it goes there.
But luckily I read your message and now I understand that man a lot better.
Judges are wise men and know what is for sale in the world.
Of course he also knows that about Rotterdam.
And will have thought . Much worse things happen in Rotterdam.
Shall I make a fuss about an unwanted lovemaking.
And thus disturb the peace on the always so quiet Krabbi
Where our beloved tourist can take a breather before he returns home. He must have made the suspect (if he has already done it) promise not to do it too often. Wall then you get Rotterdam conditions.
in the end, the judge also wants to enjoy his peace
Maybe Cees is the father of the victim after reading this message
Willing to stop his action. And thus the peace on Krabbi can be preserved
It seems busy enough to me with all those police officers on the street at night
Sincerely, Kees
