The recent mass demonstrations in Bangkok seem to be slowly winding down as the government has gone out of business and new elections have been announced for February 2014.

However, the opposition movement led by Suthep Thaugsuban still opposes the political transitional arrangements leading up to the election and calls for further reforms. Demonstrations and prick campaigns are announced for this purpose.

Today the demonstrators will gather for demonstrations at the Ratchadamnern protest stage.

The embassy advises Dutch people to remain alert in the coming period and to avoid crowds or gatherings. After all, even peaceful demonstrations can escalate unexpectedly. Therefore, if you come close to a demonstration or gathering, turn around and do not enter into a discussion.

You should also continue to follow reports in the local media.

The Dutch embassy in Bangkok is closed on December 25, 26, 31 and January 1. On all other dates the embassy is open as normal (every working day from 08:30 – 17:00).
