Political tension in Thailand continues to escalate following the decision of the Constitutional Court on 7 May 2014 to remove Prime Minister Yingluck and nine cabinet members from their posts.

The demonstrations continue and several incidents have resulted in injuries and deaths. We therefore advise you to stay away from the demonstration locations. The opposition has again announced large demonstrations with a specific call for a renewed Bangkok “shutdown” on May 14. Therefore, follow the local media and stay alert in the coming period.

If you come close to a demonstration or gathering, turn around and take another road to reach your destination.

The subway lines (BTS Skytrain and MRT subway) are operating normally. There are no indications that these will be targeted by the demonstrators. All toll roads in and around Bangkok are normally accessible.

  1. Seriously says up

    Hello readers,
in October my son and I fly to Bangkok for two weeks. Can someone tell me if the Express Bus AE1 is still running from the airport? He used to stop right in front of the booked downtown hotel.
    Yours faithfully,
    Serious.

Ernst, if you type in the bus line on the internet you can find everything. Or email your hotel to see if the bus stops there.
Because you forgot to mention the name of your hotel so I couldn't check it for you.
      Have fun in advance.

    07 May 2014

Political demonstrations continue to take place in Bangkok, particularly at Lumpini Park and Sala Deng skytrain/metro station, where shots have already been fired.

The political meetings and demonstrations are unpredictable in nature and there remains a real risk of violence (bomb attacks, grenade explosions). So it is strongly recommended to stay away from it, follow local safety instructions and follow the news closely. It is also advised to stay away from places where the opposition has gathered at night. New meetings in and outside Bangkok may take place as a result of the ruling of the Constitutional Court on May 7, 2014 (deposition of the prime minister).

The opposition movement PDRC has indicated that the international airports of Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang will not be occupied and public transport will not be disrupted.

The embassy remains open and ensures normal services.
