Thailand's first monorail should become operational on October 1, making it a symbol of hope during the corona crisis. The 2,8-kilometer Gold Line in Bangkok connects the BTS Green Line from Krung Thon Buri station to Phra Pok Klao bridge.

Due to the corona crisis, the test drives planned in April could not take place. Soon the trains will arrive and testing can still start. Manit, director of investor Krunthep Thanakom Co, expects that the original start date of October 1 can be met.

The Gold Line has become a symbol of hope for recovery as locals expect the line to boost the struggling economy in Klong San (Thon Buri) district. According to residents in the area, the project will help the local economy, promote tourism and increase prosperity.

The first part of the Gold Line, which will open in October, will have three stations: Krung Thon Buri, Charoen Nakhon and Klong San. The second part, with the fourth station Wat Anongkhram, is expected to become operational in 2023.

The line is at a height of 14 to 17 meters. Each train consists of two carriages with a capacity of 4.300 passengers per hour. It is expected to transport 42.000 passengers per day. The trains have special wheels with a rubber coating so that they make less noise. Also special: these are unmanned trains! The operation is fully electronic, which ensures accurate driving times and a high level of safety, according to Manit.

If this becomes as successful as the skytrain, I think it will also fail because of this. The BTS is of course a great thing, but it seems that nowadays rush hour lasts all day and it is only quiet in the evening or very early morning.

Yes, the success of public transport, when I first came to Bangkok in 2000 and took a trip with the BTS, the train was almost empty, according to my girlfriend because it was too expensive for the working Thai,
Now you're like a herring in a barrel, this is of course inevitable if you keep stretching the route with more and more stations. Soon you will be able to go all over the sukhumvit from Don Mueang with the BTS.

I'm curious how it is arranged during the Corona time with the one and a half meters away, chairs have been taped, but what about the standing places?
Didn't see a conductor on the train and self-discipline when boarding doesn't work for me either.
But the BTS remains a great asset.

      Funny you say this.
Indeed, there was a lot of nagging from know-it-alls who saw nothing in progress. The question is of course whether it is progress, but in any case the bts is often overcrowded and the people who look at future situations were right.
Now the same whining about the new infrastructure projects.
It's not about being ready for the future.
