48 beggars arrested in Bangkok

The Thai government finally seems to be tackling the beggar problem. This week, forty-eight beggars, including 30 Thai and 18 foreigners, were arrested in Bangkok.

The action will last until Friday, beggars in the streets and pedestrian tunnels will be removed there. The beggars are often part of organized gangs that earn a lot of money.

Incidentally, it turned out that the 48 arrested were not part of these organized gangs. The 18 foreigners are handed over to the Immigration Office so that they can be deported from the country. One of the 30 Thai was sent to a psychiatric hospital. The rest have been handed over to shelters and welfare workers and some have been sent back to their families.

    Has this solved poverty?
None of the 48 arrested belonged to a gang.

None of the beggars arrested were part of the organized gangs. Why do I get the feeling that this is not a coincidence. For example: tipped (bribe) not to beg that raid day? It nicely thins out the competition for the organized gangs of beggars.
Well maybe it's just a coincidence lol.

Or is it a “Broodje Aap” story of those so-called gangs?

Quote; “Out of 30 Thai, one was sent to a psychiatric hospital. The rest have been handed over to shelters and welfare workers and some have been sent back to their families.” end quote.
That means that the Thai government has not left the beggars to fend for themselves, it can be said that it has even provided humane solutions.
The Thai government has little to do with those 18 foreigners, very likely overstay, they knew the risks.

    Yours faithfully,
