The police investigation into the murders on Koh Tao is currently focusing on two suspects: the aforementioned Asian man and a Thai man. The Asian about whom the newspaper previously wrote that he had been arrested and a day later that he had not been arrested has been arrested (unless the newspaper rectifies this again tomorrow).

Camera footage of the man shows how he walks towards the crime scene on the night of the murder and returns in a hurry 50 minutes later. It is about a man from Myanmar who works in a night shop, but that is all the police want to say about him. Not a word about the Thai in the newspaper report.

A team of ten forensic agents set sail yesterday in a boat to take DNA samples from fishermen. Another fifty marine police officers inspect fishing boats off Koh Tao and check the crew. They also search ferries for suspects.

According to a police source, 'significant' progress has been made in the police investigation and the police can ignore matters unrelated to the murder.

My fingers are itching to make some sarcastic remarks about the police investigation, but don't let me. I read in the Sunday edition of Bangkok Post, that there is no permanent police station on the island. The rooms the victims stayed in were not searched until Wednesday, three days after the murders. Can wholeheartedly recommend the (page-wide) article, but it won't make you happy. Available at http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/433403/police-all-at-sea-in-island-murder-probe.

Police are hesitant to rely on FBI DNA technology, but have now asked Singapore to help. There, the police have the same technology that can determine sex and race from DNA samples.

My thought ? (but who am I…) ; the local mafia on that island, including the police, do NOT want the truth to come out and are looking for a western scapegoat! Just read this:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/thailand/11113268/Terrified-Briton-flees-Thai-island-after-mafia-death-threat.html

    cheers from a “local” -)

Yes, the well-known loss of face. First the finger to 3 Burmese, then to a group of Rouhinjas, then English and now Asians again. But nevertheless a compliment for the great efforts to track down the perpetrators. 90% of all murders here in Pattaya are all solved in a short time.
