The Department of Land Transport has announced plans to develop a QR code system to improve taxi service and safety. With the system, passengers of taxis can scan the QR code and have all the details of the taxi driver on their mobile.

Taxi fares have also increased. The basic rate remains 35 baht, the rate per kilometer will increase by 10 baht for the first 0,5 km and by 10 satang from 50 km. The rate, when a taxi is stationary, increases from 2 to 3 baht per minute. The airport surcharge for regular taxis will increase from 50 to 70 baht and 90 baht for minibuses.

The government also intends to legalize taxi services that use an app.

Research shows that most passengers are willing to pay more if taxi drivers improve their service to passengers. Most complaints now are about refusing passengers or refusing to turn on the meter, especially with foreigners.

0,5 THB or 50 satang is the same. According to the online site, the fare will go up to 10 km by half a baht, between 10 and 90 km unchanged and from 90 km also by half a baht. Which doesn't really make sense, is the newspaper messing around with numbers again?

” the price per kilometer from 1-10km will rise from 6 to 6.5 baht. Prices per km for trips between 10km and 90km remain unchanged, while the price per km over 90km will be 10.5 baht”

According to an initial opinion poll, a majority is not happy with the increase. I think the taxi drivers do, there are too many of them driving around and for only a meager income.

    Hi everybody,

We would like to take the taxi (3 persons) from Bangkok to Trat. (Koh Cuut). Does anyone have tips on the price and how to arrange this. In advance or on the spot at the airport. I look forward to your comments. Thank you in advance.
