The department responsible for excise duties has come up with a proposal for higher taxes on fuel, alcohol, tobacco and telecommunications. This should yield a 2027 trillion baht in 1. Revenue of 2022 billion baht is expected for 829 and 2027 billion baht for 960. The calculation is based on an annual growth of the gross domestic product of an average of 3 percent.

The excise duty on diesel and petrol is gradually being increased, says director-general Somchai. This year, petrol will be 40 satang per liter more expensive, bringing the excise duty to 5,35 baht, next year 1 baht will be added to grow to an excise duty of 8,35 baht in 2021. The excise duty on diesel will be increased by 40 baht this year. satang per liter increased and grows to 9 baht in 2021. The ceiling is set at 10 baht per liter.

Other products that can be harmful to the environment and health, such as tea, coffee and oil products, are also being examined. They can generate 5 billion baht in excise revenue. The increase in excise duty on alcohol and tobacco yields an additional revenue of 20 billion baht per year. The increase in excise duty on telecommunications is planned for 2022.

Another idea is to levy excise duty based on government recommended retail prices and no longer based on factory price. That change yields an additional 10 billion baht per year.

This year, the government expects to collect 496 billion baht in excise duties, 13 percent more than in the previous budget year. From October to March, the target was exceeded by 9 billion baht.

    Coffee and tea too?
What would be the reason for that?
    Besides collecting excise taxes?

Anyway, I will still be able to cough up that increase on my coffee and tea.

What a misery . I see them coming home in the afternoon, broken under a heavy sun 40 degrees celcius or even more. The only pleasure or entertainment they can afford is to buy 4 cigarettes each and a small bottle of law chew and they are going to hit these people again who are already having such a hard time. It saddens me

Totally agree with Marcel! In addition, due to the excise duty system used, beer with a low alcohol percentage is taxed relatively much more heavily than other spirits with a much higher percentage, such as whiskey and vodka. A considerable amount of import duty must also be paid on wine, certainly compared to neighboring countries. A bottle of Australian Hardy's, for example, costs 4 to 5 times more in Thailand than in the Netherlands.

I think the excise duties can be increased if they do something sensible with the money they receive as extra income, such as that it goes back to people who need it. Taxes are already extremely low and no government can function properly without sufficient revenue. However, the salaries must rise accordingly so that the price tag does not only lie with the workers. Feeling sorry for people who find it necessary to poison their bodies with nicotine and alcohol, I don't have that and that shouldn't be a priority as far as I'm concerned.

The minimum wage has still not been implemented for a number of people.
Taxi drivers in Bangkok were not allowed to introduce proposed adjusted fares this year.
And then talking about excise increases?

    It looks like the Netherlands.
No price indexation of pensions for the elderly for 8 years, but sharply rising health insurance and ditto renting of homes, not to mention other municipal taxes.
