Governor Aswin: 'Reopening Bangkok must be safe'

Whether foreign vaccinated tourists will soon be welcome in Bangkok depends on three factors, says governor Aswin Kwanmuang. The main condition is that at least 70 percent of the population in the capital is fully vaccinated.
According to the municipality, this condition can be met around October 22. It takes another 7 to 14 days to build up the immunity of the inhabitants. So that Bangkok can open again in the first or second week of November.
The other conditions are a reduction in the daily number of new infections and fewer patients in hospitals with Covid-19 complaints.
When these goals are met, the municipality will consult with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports to establish guidelines for reopening international tourism before submitting them to the CCSA, Aswin said.
Currently, the number of daily new infections is 2.700 to 2.800 and only 42 percent of Bangkok's 7 million residents are fully vaccinated. Bangkok still has the highest number of infections and fatalities.
Because it is not clear what exactly is meant by 'safe', it is also not clear when Bangkok is really considered safe. And I'm not even talking about the protests.
The criteria of Mr. Governor of Bangkok are crystal clear:
1. 70% of Bangkok's population vaccinated (now down to 42%)
2. reducing the daily number of new infections
3. fewer Covid-19 patients in hospitals
Although, still not so clear.
1. 70% of what population? Only the people who are officially registered as residents of Bangkok with a housebook (tabian job) Or also the people who stay there and are still officially registered in other provinces? Yes, many have returned to their official residences in other provinces, but there will still be quite a few hanging around in Bangkok. This allows for “flexible” calculation methods.
2. The most efficient way to reduce the number of daily new infections is simply to test less. That's so squeaky right?
3. the number of Covid19 patients in hospitals drops significantly all the asymptomatic Covid infected who occupy beds there are sent home with quarantine advice. Still no art.
These kinds of criteria and the calculations that go with them lead to the desired result at any given moment. Unsurpassed Thai math 🙂
Mr. Gouverneur has built in some flexibility, which could come in handy if the Supreme General sticks to his earlier promise.
You forget that the famous Thai virus experts can come to the conclusion overnight that 70% is not safe enough but that it should be 75, 80 or maybe 100%. Thai doctors are always better and more flexible than WHO.
The ink is still wet and sure enough, the opening date for Bangkok has been pushed back….
https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2186023/govt-delays-plan-to-re-open-cities-to-tourists-until-nov
Quarantine works in a village or a spacious house with a garden, but it is a bit more difficult in a slum.
People live too close together there.
Fortunately, there is sufficient ventilation in a slum because the slums have no windows and doors…
The Thai government has proven to be completely unreliable, making new promises and constantly shifting them. I hope Cambodia opens before the winter and they just dare to draw 1 clear straight line there, because no one is interested in this Thai bullshit.
They are also a lot further along with vaccination in Cambodia, I can lose my money everywhere, I don't need the Thai debacles for that.
