The French ambassador to Thailand has informed the Thai transport minister that France is interested in developing the high-speed railway from Bangkok to Hua Hin. The French also want to build an aircraft maintenance center at U-Tapao airport near Pattaya.

Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said after a meeting with French ambassador Gilles Garachon that France wants to invest in various projects in Thailand. For example, Air France KLM wants to set up a joint venture with Thai Airways International and a workshop for light aircraft at U-Tapao airport.

The minister also met Masayasu Hosumi, representative of Japan External Trade Organization in ASEAN and South Asia, on the same day. It showed that the Japanese business community still has a lot of confidence in the Thai economy. If the Thai government provides a good infrastructure and an attractive business climate, the production of car parts can remain in Thailand and Japan may expand the number of factories for electronic products.

Why cooperate with France for high-speed rail?
It took France 30 years to build barely 2000 km of track in its own country.
The Chinese plan is to build 4 km of high-speed rail over the next 15000 years.

Wasn't the junta unacceptable and democracy in need of saving, gentlemen diplomats? Or just go for the money…
