The Thai government has announced that the southern Similan Islands, an archipelago in the Andaman Sea, will no longer be accessible to tourists for five months. One island, Koh Tachai, will also remain closed to tourism after that period.

It concerns a total of seven marine national parks in the Andaman Sea. They have been closed by the DNP so that nature, including coral reefs, can recover. They have suffered severely from mass tourism.

Thanya Netithammakun, director general of the DNP said that the islands will be closed from May 15 to October 15, so that nature has time to recover. In Satun, on the islands of Tarutao, Ardang and Rawee, almost all popular tourist destinations and dive sites are closed until then. In Phangnga, the coastline, beaches and coral reefs of Similan National Park are off limits indefinitely. Diving is still allowed in two places near the Similan Islands.

Koh Tachai (see photo above) will remain closed afterwards, according to Thanya: tourists have caused serious damage to the island. The island receives almost a thousand visitors every day, although in fact it can only handle 100. This poses a serious threat to nature and the environment.

This has been happening every year for as long as I can remember.

Well, to be honest, it's not fun for tourists, but thumbs up for this decision by the government that now prefers nature over money and tourism, that may also be said.

I am so glad that the government is finally doing something to protect nature, because it is badly needed to do so. Because the government in Thailand has cut down a lot of jungles and, if necessary, rubber trees and other crops have been placed, because the jungles have been cut down, so much water has been created by the monsoon, which caused flooding, with even Bangkok receiving a lot of water. received what normally the jungles could absorb the water from floods, and now there are constant problems, including the car industry with the many water from floods that have affected the car factories a lot. If the government of Thailand does not come up with better ideas, the car manufacturers will probably leave for other countries to make their product safer and there is also a chance that the capital, which is now Bangkok, will have to be moved to Thailand. the north of the country. I wonder how Bangkok in the future with a big hurricane when the wind is directed to Bangkok and that along with the monsoon when a lot of water flows to Bangkok, what will happen. I think Bangkok is literally drowning under the many waters that come together. There is a solution to prevent this and to secure the city of Bangkok. But if I now see and read what they are doing now, it will only cause problems, until disaster strikes and the end of the story is over.

In the newspaper HLN this “news” was announced as: “tourists not welcome on Thai islands”; as if he were talking about all the Thai islands. When you see that you think: what is it again? In fact, it turns out to be about something completely different.
