Three boys aged 8 and 11 drowned yesterday in the Klong 8 canal in Thanyaburi (Pathum Thani) and one boy is still missing. They were swept away by the strong water current when they took a dip in the water at a weir.

An 11-year-old friend saw it happen before his very eyes. After a witness alerted the police, a rescue team went to work and discovered the three lifeless bodies after an hour of searching. The fourth child is still being sought.

Nong Chok district is not threatened by water from other districts of Chachoengsao province, said Adisak Khantee, director of the Water Drainage Office of the Bangkok Municipality. The water has receded in those other districts. The Irrigation Department has accelerated the drainage of water from Chachoengsao to the Bang Pakong River. It flows through the river to the Gulf of Thailand.

Quarrel in Prachin Buri between residents and the district office. The people who live outside the city want an earthen dike of 3 kilometers to be demolished. The dike prevents water from entering the area around the Sarit Yutthasil road. The district has denied the request and has asked police to keep an eye on it.

Today and tomorrow, residents in the North and the eastern provinces must expect more rain. The culprit is Typhoon Nari, which is still above the South China Sea. The core of the typhoon is located 300 km east of Da Nang in Vietnam. Nari is moving westward at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour and will weaken into an active low pressure area in the coming days on its way to Laos and the northeast of Thailand.

The Meteorological Department's warning applies today to the Northeast and Eastern provinces, including Nong Khai, Bung Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen and Ubon Ratchatani provinces.
