A month after a Thai TV presenter died from a cosmetic procedure, such an operation has claimed another fatality: 24-year-old British Joy Noah Williams. The doctor who performed the procedure has been arrested and charged with negligence.

And not only that, because he was also not authorized to perform the procedure for which he had received permission from a surgeon. Both doctors will therefore face an investigation by the Medical Council of Thailand and could lose their license.

Williams passed away Thursday. She had returned to the SP Clinic on Soi Lat Phrao in Huai Khwang (Bangkok) because she was bleeding after a breast augmentation she had on October 14. She was placed under anesthesia intravenously, from which she did not regain consciousness after the silicone was removed.

According to the Secretary General of the Medical Council of Thailand, investigations appear to indicate that the woman had taken sleeping pills before being anesthetized. This would explain her death. He says the clinic should have had equipment to save her life. The results of the autopsy will be announced next week.

The doctor who performed the procedure could face up to three years in prison and a 60.000 baht fine if found guilty. He has been released on bail of 200.000 baht. The other doctor risks a prison sentence of 1 year and/or a fine of 20.000 baht. The clinic is closed for 60 days. It is the first time that such a tragic incident has taken place in the 10-year-old clinic.

The TV presenter died a month ago, also as a result of the anesthesia, in a clinic in Samut Prakan, where her face was tinkered with. That case is still under investigation.

Of course a tragic event. However, one should realize that cosmetic procedures also involve risks. Thailand has a very good reputation in that regard. Very few complications. The same cannot be said of most European countries.

I agree with Martin! Thailand is very safe.
You might be better off going to a well-known hospital, The anesthetics are good, and equipment is certainly present and of very high quality. The rules in Thailand are very strict. The controls in Thailand are very highly regarded. So many more mistakes happen in Europe than in Thailand. One thing is certain, every surgery involves risks.
