One person died early this morning in riots in Thailand. A supporter of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra was shot dead in the streets of Bangkok. This brings the death toll to four.

Government opponents have entered the police complex where the prime minister spent the night. She has been transferred to another location.

Clashes between supporters and opponents of the government near a station where 70.000 red shirt supporters gathered were also killed last night. The police separated the two parties.

Authorities report that 57 people were injured in the disturbances.

Political unrest in Thailand has increased over the past week over a controversial amnesty law, which opponents say former prime minister and billionaire Thaksin could have benefited from. In September 2006, a military coup ended his rule. Thaksin has lived in exile since 2008, after being sentenced to 2 years in prison for abuse of power.

Terrible... it's one thing to be against a certain situation, but to immediately kill your opponents is another extreme. Unfortunately, it is so in our world. You are not allowed to have your own opinion on certain issues. Be it politics or religion. If you think otherwise, you will be beaten up, tortured, murdered, silenced.
That's why I don't get involved in religion or politics. It's a dirty game.

It's getting completely out of hand, just like other years. Many Thai people apparently cannot handle democracy.
Too bad, because history keeps repeating itself.

I'm going to Thailand in January but now I'm starting to doubt whether to fly to Phuket. A few years ago, the airports were also occupied and it was impossible to travel further. I'm still waiting to book to fly to Phuket. Hope to have more clarity within two weeks.
