Airports of Thailand (AoT), the owner of Suvarnabhumi airport, wants to quickly expand the airport to give the airport more capacity.

The third phase of the expansion plan, which consists of a new terminal and additional runway, must be accelerated.

Preparations are already in full swing, such as the mandatory reporting on environmental and health effects and the drawing up of a program of requirements. Registration for the expansion is expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2017.

The new terminal will increase the airport's capacity to 90 million passengers per year. That is now 45 million passengers, but that number is already being exceeded. The new terminal will cost 34,6 billion baht.

Phase 2 is currently underway. The east side of the terminal and the parking garage will be expanded and there will be an air bridge to the southern part of the airport. This involves an investment of 50,3 billion baht.
