Earthquakes in Lampang province
Last Wednesday, a number of earthquakes occurred in the Wang Nua district of Lampang province in northern Thailand, one of which measured a magnitude of 4.9. An earthquake of this magnitude can be dangerous, but after inspection by several experts, it was determined that the damage was very limited.
This time, homes and offices in several tambons were only slightly damaged with cracks in walls and pillars, but seismologists are concerned for the entire region. The area in the north has multiple fault lines, which can produce earthquakes at any time, recalling the 2014 earthquake in Chiang Rai province.
Penneung Wanichchai, a seismologist from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), is the head of the Thailand Research Fund (TRF), which developed a plan to prevent or limit earthquake damage. “Houses and buildings should be reinforced with large steel pillars,” he said. He added that his team has already reinforced 4 school buildings and is now reinforcing another 4 school buildings. “Budgets for government buildings, such as schools and hospitals, should be increased by at least 15% to allow construction to minimize damage from earthquakes.”

Well,
As far as Chiang Mai, it was noticeable at about 3.00 a.m. on Wednesday, as if a heavy truck was driving by. But no one was damaged.
We felt it on Wednesday afternoon in the Bangkok hospital in Chiang Mai. Not really bad, but we felt it. Also the stand with the drip bags moved. Strange sensation.
Can still remember the earthquake in Chiang Rai in the year 2014.
In the evening about 18.00:XNUMX PM my wife was standing outside with her sister, and I was sitting in front of my Computer when suddenly I heard a growl that sounded much like the sound of a huge truck.
Shortly afterwards the whole house began to shake, cabinets fell over, and the broken glass was scattered all over the house, so that I got used to never going barefoot in the house again.
The main power switch was located right above my computer, so I immediately turned it off in a fraction of seconds to prevent fire.
Two hours later I started to realize, that now of course the refrigerator was not working anymore, so that after it seemed to be a bit quieter, I switched the power back on.
We were exactly 2 km from the epicenter, and slept outside for 3 nights, partly due to the many aftershocks.
The only one who thought sleeping outside the house was a nice adventure was the 3-year-old daughter of a niece.
While I sometimes think about it, what it's like when such an earthquake doesn't come at 18.00 pm, but surprisingly in the middle of the night.
