THE NATION

The Nation headlines the musical chairs at the Department of Education. A large number of civil servants have been transferred or relieved of their duties. While there is evidence of corruption, not all officials involved are corrupt, government spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said. Reorganizing the Ministry of Education is necessary because education reforms in Thailand are not getting off the ground. Corrupt officials would prevent change. For example, there is a list of 100 education officials who are corrupt. In addition, there were civil servants who were not qualified or capable. Prayut will use Article 44 to quickly push through the reforms: http://goo.gl/FWHSdO

BANGKOK POST

BP will publish an article on Sunday about the possible construction of the Pak Bara deep-sea port. Environmental activists and residents from Satun province are against the plan and say they will do everything they can to prevent it from going ahead. They then come face to face with Prime Minister Prayut who is in favor of the plan. In his weekly TV presentation, he warned residents of Satun province not to cause trouble. According to Prayut, the port is necessary to create a connection between the Andaman Sea and waterways to Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The port is the follow-up to another project, the Satun-Songkhla energy land bridge, a route to transport fuel from a planned oil refinery on the Gulf of Thailand to companies on the Andaman Sea. There will first be a one-year feasibility study. Construction of the port could start in 2017 and take five years to complete: http://goo.gl/3Q1tsx

OTHER NEWS

– A taxi driver who assaulted a traffic cop by hitting him, stole his gun and shot dead a middle-aged couple has turned himself in and confessed to the crime. The man was annoyed with the couple from whom he rented his apartment, because they commented on the man's loud guitar playing. In addition, they had entered his house without permission: http://goo.gl/lWLVz8

– Most Thais are disappointed in the government's ability to revive Thailand's faltering economy, a Suan Dusit Poll poll showed on Sunday. No less than 78% believe that the current government has not been able to solve the economic problems. There is also dissatisfaction with the inability to bring about political reform and reconciliation. In fact, some 88% felt that the cost of living has only risen since Prayut came to power: http://goo.gl/lS638u

– The fatal assault of a young woman in Chiang Mai has been solved. The police have arrested a Thai man (52) who turns out to be a deranged maniac. The man has previously killed a woman in the same way (using a broken bottle to work on the intimate parts of his victim, who bled to death as a result). In the past, the suspect lured and killed a bartender who worked on Patpong. The man was imprisoned in Bangkok for that murder, but he was released in 2003. There seems to be a pattern to the man's bizarre crimes, as similar cases have been reported in his hometown of Bang Lamun (Chon Buri) spanning over a 10-year period: http://goo.gl/jB20ev

  1. support says up

Earlier, honorary reports of the murder of a girl in Chiangmai indicated that she had accompanied a foreigner to the hotel. That now appears to be a Thai with a twisted mind.

    • Khan Peter says up

The victim from Chiang Mai visited a bar frequented by many foreigners and apparently also the Thai perpetrator. The message from BP at the time was rather unclear whether it was about a Thai or foreigner.

“Most Thais are disappointed in the government's ability to revive Thailand's faltering economy, a Suan Dusit Poll poll showed on Sunday. No less than 78,24% believe that the current government has not been able to solve the economic problems. There is also dissatisfaction with the inability to bring about political reform and reconciliation.”

Clear signs that Prayut is losing support. The first dissatisfaction almost always stems from economic malaise. Next in Thailand comes Prayut's inability to bring about reconciliation. It is precisely the lack of reconciliation that will hinder reforms. After all, reforms require broad support in society, and that broad support will not be achieved in a divided society.

But yes, Prayut is going his own way and is already deploying Article 44. A dead end.

Article 44. As my previous commenter already wrote. Is a dead end.
You are going to travel through Europe with a map from 1944. As a Thai, of course, and even as a general.
You can't give a damn about all the world's history in the world. First, you can't read the card and
second, you don't understand economics and who has the right of way on the road.
Later you come back to Thailand and are told that those guys in Europe are crazy.
With us, the strongest always take precedence. It will always be that way.
    J. Jordan.
