News from Thailand – Tuesday, April 14, 2015

According to The Nation, there is a lead to the perpetrators of last Friday's Koh Samui bombing. Police say they found evidence during the search of three homes belonging to security personnel who worked at the Central Festival shopping center on Koh Samui. These traces could be linked to the car bomb. The three guards were arrested and transferred to a military base. DNA was also taken from these suspects: http://goo.gl/lb55xb

Bangkok Post also reports on the front page that security personnel of the mall have been arrested in connection with the attack. The Crime Suppression Division thinks they can solve the crime quickly, because the camera on which the suspected driver of the car bomb can be seen gives a clear picture of the suspect. BP speaks of four former employees who have been arrested and eight others are still being sought. These are staff of the shopping center who have recently been fired or who have resigned themselves. The four men suspected come from the extreme south of Thailand and may have ties to extremists there: http://goo.gl/oVXtl

– Three garbage collectors from the municipality of Bangkok were injured in an explosion. The bomb was hidden in a rubbish bin and set off at 9.00:12 am on Soi Wachiratham Sathit 101 (Soi Sukhumvit 1/XNUMX) this morning. The three employees were emptying the bin into their garbage truck when the bomb exploded. The men were rushed to Bang Na hospital: http://goo.gl/2avhQJ

– The US has appointed Glyn Davis, a former envoy to North Korea, as the new ambassador to Thailand. The US Senate has yet to approve the nomination. Davies gets a tough job because the relationship between the US and Thailand has cooled considerably after the military coup: http://goo.gl/RXZhdd

– Minister Chatchai Sarikulya of economic affairs promised in an interview with BP that he will do something about the cost of living, falling agricultural prices, weak exports and the stagnating economy in Thailand. For example, the productivity of farmers must be increased and costs must be reduced. Organic farming should be encouraged and farmers should also be able to find work outside the season. However, the minister admits that little has been achieved so far. First plans had to be made, but now they have to become concrete: http://goo.gl/G5uEkT

What a scum to place bombs in waste bins. People How cowardly can you be!!!!!! Just meeting people who work for their money.

It is not yet known who the perpetrators are, but in my opinion there are few others than Islamists who can be so cowardly!
