Today is November 1, which means that Thailand is opening its doors to international tourists again. Fully vaccinated tourists from 63 countries are allowed to travel by plane to Thailand without quarantine. You must get tested before departure, book a SHA+ or AQ hotel for 1 night to get tested there again. With a negative test, the holiday starts and you can travel through Thailand.

It is still unclear how many tourists will travel to Thailand in the last months of this year. Some government agencies expect that the number of arriving tourists could be around 1-2 million.

Thailand's main international airport, Suvarnabhumi, will operate at just 30 percent capacity on its first day of reopening to foreign tourists. According to the airport authority, 1 passengers will arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport on November 30.000. Passengers will arrive on 440 commercial flights, comprising 230 domestic, 110 international and 100 cargo flights.

Police General Damrongsak Kittiprafat expects an average of 4.000 foreign tourists to arrive in Thailand every day.

Restart economy

Tassapon Bijleveld, chairman of Asia Aviation (AAV), the largest shareholder of Thai AirAsia (TAA), says the reopening of the country is necessary to restart the national economy.

The Thai population is less enthusiastic, there is a lot of fear that new virus variants will also enter the country with the tourists. A recent poll by the Ministry of Health shows that 92,4% of the population in the tourist areas are concerned about the reopening of the country. The risk of a new outbreak is of particular concern.

Thailand Pass the entrance ticket to Thailand

Those who want to go to Thailand from November 1 must first register their trip at https://tp.consular.go.th/ For this, a number of documents are required, including a copy of your passport, proof of vaccination, hotel reservation and medical travel insurance. Once registered and approved, you will receive a Thailand Pass QR code. This QR code can be printed or placed on your smartphone and ensures that you do not have to show all kinds of documents upon arrival at the airport. An earlier test on the airlift showed that it should be possible to use the Thailand Pass QR code board the taxi from your SHA plus or AQ hotel within half an hour of arriving at the airport.

If you are going to apply for a Thailand Pass, remember that you cannot upload a .PDF! Only use .jpg, .jpeg or .png!

Well that's going well, site is rattling on all sides, first completely overloaded... And now come to the last step of insurance details on an error “Error from API server”.

So thank you Thai Embassy for not approving my COE which was already running a week before, and now I have to start stressing about converting airline and AQ hotel reservations. It's that I live there but I really wouldn't recommend anyone to travel with this system.

    • Peter (editor) says up

You can assume that the first day such a new system still has bugs and is quickly overloaded. Try again at a later time

      • Mike says up

Just in the press conference of CCSA it is mentioned that it only works on desktop systems. From tomorrow also on mobile, that will probably affect a lot of people. But I see the API error bug coming up a lot, even for people who had already successfully submitted for family members.

So we will see, why this had to be rushed and COE had to close immediately is really a mystery to me…

    • Geert says up

I just received the same error message. Re-entered everything up to 6 times and tried different browsers, in vain. Frustrating ! How hard can it be to thoroughly test everything first…

      Goodbye.

I'm having some trouble booking a SHA+ hotel. My usual hotel in Bangkok (4*, SHA+ certified) responds nicely to my e-mail, but confirming a reservation, let alone sending a payment request, is all that. So after 1 week, full of apologies from the hotel person, but with no final result, I decide to approach another hotel. They don't respond either.... And before people think “they are very busy”, no, that is not too bad.

So I want to help myself, because the hotel pays a hefty commission, but focus on Booking.com or Agoda, but I find SHA+ hotels there, but no Test&Go packages (the packages for 1 night, with airport transfers and PCR test) . Anyone suggestions? Preferably near Petchburi or Suhhumvit.

Apropos Thai people; Just like in the Netherlands, the population is anxious. Logical, but not quite right. Moreover, a lot depends on it for the Thais, they may curse foreign tourists to hell, but a considerable part of the population lives directly or indirectly from those tourists! Chinese people are not allowed to travel anyway, so they won't come. The Western tourists must all be vaccinated, so the risk is no greater than with any other.

    • wino says up

Have a look at https://aq.in.th , I picked a hotel there and after paying and sending the necessary documents, I received a confirmation letter a day later.

    • Harry. N says up

The latter is not entirely correct that all Western tourists must be vaccinated. Unvaccinated tourists can also come, but then go into quarantine for 10 days. The confusion is often caused by the media reporting with big headlines that vaccinated tourists are welcome again. Then it is further stated in most articles with a rule that unvaccinated people can also come with the 10-day quarantine.

Via the following link you can book a test & go package on the Agoda website. Just did it myself and it's super fast.

      Dear,
booked yesterday via Agoda.nl with Test&Go package at Siam mandarina hotel (near airport). and they have about 10 hotels in Bangkok with Test&Go formulas.
      Good luck.

      • Dennis says up

Come across this hotel more often, but for my travel dates, Agoda indicates "no rooms available". Maybe too far in the future.

Thanks to Wino's tip, I have now booked at Lohas Residence Sukhumvit soi 2. An answer within 5 minutes. No prepayment required, just a deposit of 1000 THB. Received booking confirmation within 2 hours after sending proof of payment (they will have checked their bank statements in the meantime.

    Same problem here.
Everything filled in and then for the last push:
    Error from API server.
    Whatever I do.
Wondering if anyone can shed some light on this.

    • Mike says up

Might sound stupid but kind of comforting to hear that you also have the same problem.

Compared to COE, 1 thing has changed, that is that everything now has to be delivered in image (png, jpg, etc) while typically things like hotel reservation and insurance policy are delivered as pdf. COE was better at that.

    • Alain says up

I too am encountering the same problem.
First it was the files I had to convert from PDF to Jpg.
Now I have another problem with the policy number. Is not on my document received from Bond Moyson who works together with April insurance in Thailand.

And then the Error API server. I put everything aside for a while and go to the gym to take it off.

  5. Kevin Oil says up

Just tried and indeed exactly the same problem: “Error from API server”
I tried it 2x, but it went wrong on both Chrome and Firefox...

    A few more notes:

Please note, you can NOT upload pdfs and the hotel receipts (Qui Sukhumvit for me) are mostly pdfs, so transfer them to jpg or png.
It always says that you can upload multiple files, but it only seems to accept 1, after the 2nd the first upload appears to have disappeared…

    Try again later…

  6. Daniel says up

Also with me and friends the same problem, API server error after uploading the last document.
Richard Barrow also announced this on Twitter.
Had everything prepared with pdf, only pictures for the effort.
    Who understands this?
    Daniel

    • Mike says up

Nobody understands this, and it is also inexplicable, rolling out a completely new IT system at the last minute… probably by Prayut's IT nephew. 😉
Probably the same cousin who also made the 90 day address reporting, and the COE system…

I was completely at peace with being quarantined for 7 days, I only went to the Netherlands from Thailand with that thought.

Then I heard about the Singapore Vaccinated Travel Lanes and I thought, great, I have to do something there. But the IT system was not really good there either, you had to upload 2 QRs while you only have 1 in the Netherlands and France (that has now been adjusted in the CoronaCheck App, of which you cannot make a screenshot at all on Android, but you can on iOS …. useful!). They could have tested that, of course….. then, yes, but also only if you have been vaccinated in the country you are flying from. So no Thai vaccination that is registered in NL. But at least that site was live long before the announcement came and you could use it.

So Singapore just gave up … and Thailand says, 1 day quarantine and 3 to 5 days application time for Thailand Pass … I think OK great, move flight to November 6, wait a few extra weeks, no problem. Then, no 7 days… and if you fly to Thailand in the first 12 days, still apply for a COE. Yes, come on make up your mind!

And with tickets that you have already flown on, you can only make adjustments once for the return journey… otherwise you have to call or go to an office. And that is not easy for every company.

So I already saw this misery coming today, but I will wait very patiently so that my heart does not fail before I am back in Thailand. 😉

  7. Jan says up

Is the booking confirmation with proof of payment from agoda sufficient to top up in ThailandPass?

    • Mike says up

If the hotel is only an approved AQ hotel (or SHA perhaps?)

It says that a Covid19 RT PCR test is done by the hotel:
      Covid-19 PCR Tests
Inclusive of 1 x Covid-19 PCR test upon arrival

And that the transport (shared or private) from the airport to the hotel is included. For hotels that do not have a hospital nearby, you may first be taken to a separate location for the test.

      • Rudi says up

If there is nothing about the test with the hotel booking, how do you get such a test?

        • Mike says up

I think the best thing to do in this case is to contact the hotel, it may not be listed, but it is still included in the package you have booked.

      • Kees says up

I had first booked through Agoda, which was not good.
        Then booked directly with AQ/SHA+hotel and paid with visa (neatly and quickly helped by hotel);

Confirmation letter received (booking reference required for Thailand pass application)
the confirmation letter clearly states that it concerns an ASQ Rate/package with the price paid (in my case THB 4700) including 1 night accommodation, 3 meals a day, transport from airport to hotel, 2x covid test during stay (1x at entry and 1 time to take with you and to test yourself after 6/7 days)

Received everything neatly and quickly. But when applying for Thailand Pass with the last step, I also keep getting ERROR FROM API SERVER.

I don't understand this “A recent poll by the Ministry of Health shows that 92,4% of the population in the tourist areas are concerned about the reopening of the country. The chance of a new outbreak in particular is the greatest concern.”
Tourist areas are areas where tourists come, such as Pukhet, Hua Hin, Koh Samui, Chiang Mai, Pattaya ... or am I wrong? In those areas, the majority, such as hotels, restaurants, bars, taxis, shops, malls, massage parlors, travel agencies, etc., live from tourists… and those people would be worried? I think something is off here with this recent poll. I rather think that 90% of the population in tourist areas are worried whether it will ever come back to the way it used to be.
Small example: in Pukhet there are reportedly 80.000 inhabitants and of those 73.000 would be concerned and on Koh Samui +/- 65.000 of the 70.000 inhabitants .. understand who can.

  10. Ton says up

After choosing the plan you want, in my case quarantine exemption and having selected it, you will be taken to the next page “Compliance with Government of Thailand Disease Prevention Measures”.

The button to confirm that you have read, grabbed and accepted the information is not working??
So you cannot sign up for the Thailand Pass.

So you will not be happy about this.

  11. Glass says up

So it can also go well, but need to convert pdf to images
Submitted everything and received the Thai pass 2 hours later
    Am very happy with it
They can really do what the Thais do
Everyone complains but wants to go there
    Good luck everyone

    • Mike says up

It can go well… yes… sometimes… there are also people who have half an entry. They can't make a new submission, but they also haven't received a feedback or confirmation email. Someone had found a trick to add a space in the passport number, as a way to start the application again.

I myself have just had a COE pre-approval from the Thai embassy, probably they have been waiting for how the new system works and now they see how a mess it is.

It's sad though, a system that contains the information of every person who enters the country by plane… other countries will be really interested in that. But given how poorly it is put together, it will probably not be the best with security.

    ERROR FROM API SERVER.

It means that the server encountered an unexpected condition that prevented it from fulfilling the request.

It means that the server encountered an unexpected error and therefore cannot process the request.
In other words, in the route to processing there is a bug, program stops and gives the Error.
    End exercise.
This will continue until the error is corrected in the software.
So repeating one after the other makes no sense waiting for it to be resolved.

    For your information

    success

If a new app or program appears: NEVER TRY TO BE THE FIRST. There is a good chance that there are still errors and bugs. Wait at least a week before trying, then many errors and bugs will have been fixed. I will never, when our Tax-on-web opens, use it immediately. I always wait a few weeks, you have enough time anyway. Same with people who want to go to Thailand. I suppose these aren't going to leave tomorrow anyway….. and, if so, then you're already too late.

    • Jahris says up

This is the post of the day for me! And also nice to read contributions that are not full of complaints, as so often on this forum unfortunately. For my work I occasionally have to test new applications and it is quite rare if one really functions 100% from the start, also here in the Netherlands. Often enough there are still small mistakes in it. And that may also be the case here. Waiting a while and just trying again later is often the best thing to do.

  14. Eric says up

    Can these also be photos

copy of your passport, proof of vaccination, hotel reservation and travel medical insurance.

    • Mike says up

I assume that just like the COE, it can also be photos. Please note that with modern phones, the standard photos are larger than the maximum 2 megabytes. So adjust the settings of the camera, or take the photo from a distance and then cut it in the photo editor.

Make sure that the orientation is correct and that the entire document is sharp. Pro tip, with daylight it is so much easier.

  15. David says up

TAT is expecting thousands of incoming passengers in Thailand today. And hundreds of thousands over the next few weeks in 2021. Very optimistic when I read the comments here from commenters who can't access the app. To make things easier, Bangkok Post is posting a (photoshop?) photo of the situation at BKK airport today. Then I wonder, did all those people with COE purposely wait until 1/11? Surely they couldn't have known 3-4 weeks ago that the entry requirements would be relaxed? Can I put a big question mark on this.

  16. Arie says up

In December I would like to go to Thailand for 2 weeks. For this I booked a ticket over Dubai (United Arab Emirates). I will stay in Dubai for a few nights because of Formula 1. Who knows if it is allowed to stay in 21 countries (which belong to the quarantine free countries) for the past 2 days? Or does this really have to be 1 country?

    • Mike says up

At the moment it is not clear to me either, there is not really room for such a thing in the Thailand Plus application. Plus, during the application, they want to know where you've been in the past 14 days (not 21). You also do not have to declare transit flights, as you did with COE.

So basically you fill in the details of your flight from Dubai and indicate that you have been in the Netherlands and UAE for the last 14 days and it should be fine.

We just managed to submit the application for the Thailand Pass.
After it didn't work a number of times, I got the tip on another site to put a space after the passport number, apparently the system expects 10 characters at the field of the passport number. Also added the attachments in png format.
Received a notification that the request was successfully received.
Now just wait for a response.
