Dear readers,

Because it was not possible due to private circumstances to go on a booked Air Aisa trip, I contacted them to see if something of a refund was possible. Their answer really surprised me. Conversion of data or refund of (div) taxes was possible.

The latter especially surprised me. If I have understood correctly, the taxes are (also) paid per person to e/o airport taxes e/o in and out of the airport. It was not entirely clear to me.

It was clear to me on their site that you can fill in a form the day after you did not show up for the flight…. and incredibly a week later the money was on my account (internet site airasia, my booking, refund).

It is true that in the past I have let an EVA Air seat leave empty a few times. Very waste of money. Had I gone anyway I had to buy a return ticket and I didn't really feel like it either. Searching the internet I can't find anything about refunds of taxes in the event of a no show at other companies, including EVA.

I do see that airport tax for Bangkok and Amsterdam is a lot of money. And also entering the airports is calculated.

Do the airlines keep their mouths shut and put the airport tax and flight tax in their pocket or can you ask for it back or is that only the case with Air Asia?

Who knows more about this?

Peter

    Dear Peter,
You probably only booked a ticket but not a package trip.
Canceled last year at 333 and neatly refunded my taxes and the rest of the trip and cancellation insurance.
Advice, book a ticket with a tour operator and not yourself, costs a little more, but make sure the return is intact
    Tax.

Also the tickets from air asia back from the trip and cancellation insurance.

I think the questioner is referring to cases where you cannot successfully invoke your travel and/or cancellation insurance.
Otherwise it is rather wiedes that you (also) get the taxes back.

Experience with China airlines. We also had to cancel. I received everything back from the company (with the exception of the ticket price), but it was again covered by my travel insurance.
No problem. Went naturally. Not asked for.,

I suppose for the sake of convenience they won't say anything if you don't ask.
On the other hand, they also have costs if you ask for it.
Administration and the costs they pay to the credit card company, for example.
They have previously had to pay a percentage to the credit card company on the money that they later refund, when you paid for the trip with your credit card.
They probably won't get that back.

Booked a flight with AirAsia a few years ago with a friend, who was unable to attend at the last minute.
Reported this at the airport at the counter; filled in a form and after about a week I got the airport tax refunded.
