Dear readers,

We want to go on holiday to Thailand this year. That will be the 3rd time. We have been in the North Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, Bangkok of course and also in Hua Hin and the surrounding area.

We now want to go further south to enjoy a relaxed beach holiday. We look for beaches where you do not immediately encounter hordes of foreign tourists. We want to soak up the authentic Thai atmosphere. How far can we go to the south, because there is still a problem with bomb attacks there?

Who has a tip for a wonderful, not too touristy beach in the south? Which places can we visit? We are thinking of traveling by train (we are not in a hurry).

Thank you very much for your help, dear people.

Greetings,

Ester

South of Krabi are many nice islands in the Andaman Sea, which can all be reached from there by (speed) boat.
    Koh Phi Phi is busy.
Quieter on Koh Lanta, Koh Jum and further south.
In the Gulf of Thailand, reachable by train : Ban Krut

South is in the title? Yours are in the East. And Koh Chang is indeed encountering crowds of tourists….

Narathiwat and Pattani are nice coastal cities, close to miles of deserted beaches. If you don't want to sit among the tourists, I would look around and tour there.

    Dear Esther,

Go down to the east side of Thailand.
If you know Pattaya then down to Trat. I've already checked this out myself
Didn't do it (this year did) and didn't have time for some reason.

I got this advice from an older man who was also fed up with the crowds.
Trat is a fishing village (town) where you can still meet the old Thailand.

Good luck and have a look on the internet.
    Yours faithfully,

    Erwin

I totally agree with other Teun. On Koh Mak, try going to Banana Sunset. You never want to leave there. On Koh Chang, take a bit of the South or East. Koh Kood is also nice and not too touristy. Have fun.

Did a week of Hatyai and Songkhla last week.
Beautiful beaches at Songkhla and hardly any people during the week. Weekends a bit busier and in the evening at dinner time many people come to the beach to eat.

Take a look at Prachuap Khirikhan city. Has a nice beach within air force base. A little further south you also have some beach resorts, including Ban Krut.

If you go in November-March take a look at koh phayam and (small) koh ko Chang from Ranong.

Koh Lanta is also beautiful. Very south you have koh lipe.
