Dear readers,

I would like to go to an island with my children this week but have seen on the weather reports that it rains a lot. Can someone give me a tip where I can go where the rain is not too bad? Koh Samui or Krabi region or any other tip or info about the weather from someone who is staying or living there now?

Regards,

Vincent

You will not find an island where it does not rain in Thailand and the surrounding area.

You will indeed have to look at the weather reports. But its reliability seems to be somewhat different there. Still wish you a pleasant stay!

I think you better bring a big umbrella because it rains all over Thailand

Just go to the island that appeals to you the most. It can rain, but that is almost everywhere locally and only a short shower, with sun before and after.

If you see a forecast that says 'rain 90%', it doesn't mean it will rain 90% of the day, but that there is a 90% chance that it will rain sometime that day.

    Lots of fun.

      @Steven,

The weather reports here are reasonably comparable to the Netherlands.
There, too, they were able to describe the weather forecasts of: "Here and there a shower" where it was usually "here" then "there"

But I think it's pretty readable here.
(haha, I already have my armor on

15 years ago, we spent a week on Samui in November, raining all week.
We were then told that November and December was the rainy season on this island.
But yes, it can always differ. Nothing is as changeable as the weather

Look at the Thai rainfall radar TMD : weather.tmd.go.th

Well, I would certainly not go to Samui in the period mid-October and November.
Now had 2 days of rain and the prediction is that there is much more on the way. May also be because almost
    everyone was here without water.

We just came from Koh Chang, the rain seemed to be pouring out there. The weeks I was there it rained sporadically and very locally. When it rains, you just slide up a village towards a clear sky.

I would opt for an island in the Andaman Sea and preferably more north of Phuket than south of Phuket. Koh Samui has its peak rainfall in October-November. This year October on Koh Samui was exceptionally dry, but now the rainy season has started there too. So better the islands in the Andaman Sea knowing that Pkuket gets its most rain in August-September.

What we have experienced is that it rains the least on Ko Samed. We live on the mainland in Rayong and have a lot of rain here, but when we cross over to Samed it is usually dry there. Ko Chang is also a lot of rain at this time.

You may find the website below helpful.

You can see the climate per country and then per region and month. How many rainy days there are on average and how much rain falls on average in a month.

Good example of a website that gives a completely wrong picture. Rainy days doesn't mean it rains all day, often it's just a single shower, and the amount of rain doesn't mean anything either.
