Reader Question: When is Yi Peng celebrated?
Dear readers,
I know that Loi Krathong falls on November 14, does anyone know about Yi Peng? As far as I know this is around the same time. I am in Chiang Mai and was wondering, where is the best place to be?
And can I really experience the celebration, so not just standing there as a tourist and taking pictures?

In the North they also call Loi Krathong Yi peng (Phasaa Nüa) and is indeed celebrated on November 14 this year, depending on the phase of the month. By the way, Chiangmai is a nice position to celebrate. If you click on the bottom link, you can hear the Düen Yi peng in the text.

In addition, the Yi peng comes from the Lanna culture and is celebrated with hundreds of lanterns / balloons that are released, while the Loi Krathong are small flotillas of light.
