Dear readers,

I am a nature lover and interested in birds. Where in the North-East of Thailand can I best spot birds? And which birds can I see?

Regards,

Adrie

Eh most birds are outside and in the forest where it is still there.
Find the national parks or wetlands.
You ask for an area the size of Germany, so just searching on Google yourself is plenty of info.
    I'll give you a few

Check out the following links here

The national parks are indicated here

It is different here per province. Enter a province in this list.

Many water birds such as white cranes in almost every paddy field.

You have the best chance in the national parks. There are more than 20 in the isaan: Northeastern Thailand.
    See a list https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lijst_van_nationale_parken_in_Thailand
Google for the parks on this list.
There are also several extensive reservoirs such as the Ubolratana lake northwest of Kkon Kaen, the Lam Pao lake east of Khon Kaen., Nam Un west of Sakon Nakon. The Dutchman Robert Merks of the Baan Sanook Resotel knows more about the latter http://www.resotel-baan-sanook.com a lot of.
Southwest of Khon Kaen is a vast swamp area in the basin of the Chi rivers.

Although not in Isaan, but in the province of Narathiwat: the Hala Bala Wildlife Sanctuary in Waeng District is a popular bird watching place. The most famous bird there is the hornbill, one of the symbols of Narathiwat province.
