Reader question: Is it possible to sail from Krabi to Malaysia (Langkawi) for a visa run?
Dear readers,
My question actually concerns a fellow resident of the compound where we spend the winter in Krabi. He is paralyzed in the lower extremities and sits and moves in a wheelchair. Like other tourists, because he also spends the winter here on a “Tourist” visa, he has to do a so-called “border run” after two months. Just across the border and back in, to get a new stamp.
Normally this is done from Krabi via a road trip to Satun, a drive of about four to five hours and then back again. Torture for him, because he can't bridge this sitting for a long time. To consider alternatives, there was now the idea of possibly sailing via a boat trip from Krabi to Malaysia (Langkawi?) and back (possibly after overnight stay on site).
Does anyone know if this is possible, how long such a crossing would take and what the cost would be (approximately).
Thank you in advance on his behalf.
Yours faithfully,
Unclewin
I know that route. From Krabi take a plane to Kuala Lumpur. 1 hour + 1 hour taxi, visit to the city, return the next day. Or take a few days. Another boat Krabi-lanta-koh lipe – satun – lankawi, but disabled in wheelchair? There are waves on water and they can collide
Alain
Dear,
I have just added the timetable and route and prices for you, if 4 to 5 hours by car is already torture, what should this be, the journey already takes about 8 hours, with the necessary transfers,
All the information you asked for is in there; price, travel time and route, I would still recommend the car and a boat trip is not necessarily more comfortable than a car ride, with a bit of rough sea I am already broken as a healthy person, I would leave it as it was.
The Krabi Town to Langkawi ferry is a minivan and ferry combination ticket. A minivan takes passengers from Krabi Town to Trang to board the ferry to Langkawi. View timetables and buy tickets online.
Krabi Town to Langkawi Ferry Timetable and Costs:
•Depart from Krabi Town Hotel at 10:00 – Arrive at Langkawi at 18:00 local time
•Adults – 2400 Baht per Adult (guests over 11 are classed as adults)
•Child 2- 11 years – 1680 Baht per child
•Child under 2 – 1000 Baht per child
•Be picked up by the minivan from your Krabi Town Hotel at 10:00
•Travel by minivan to Hat Yao Pier in Trang and board the High Speed ferry which departs at 13:00
•You will depart at Koh Lipe for Immigration
•From Koh Lipe to Langkawi you will continue the journey by ferry
•The ferry journey to Langkawi is 4 hours, so you will arrive at Langkawi at 18:00 local time
The ferry only operates from November 8, 2014 until April 18, 2015. The ferry does not operate from May to November due to the monsoon season causing rough seas.
Yours faithfully,
Lex K.
