Dear readers,

What can I do with our two sons in two months of school holidays?

They are 15 and 13 years old. They both change schools. Their new schools do not organize a summer school. We live in Jomtien near Pattaya.

All suggestions are welcome.

Regards,

Jules

Hi, my kids attend tara pattana international school. Where they always offer a very varied and fun summer school program.
At most 15 minutes from jomtien. Good luck!!

    Dear Jules,
It seems like a cry for help, as if you don't know what to do with your children.
Perhaps an idea to ask the children themselves first? Then you at least know that there will be something that the kids are 'satisfied' with. If that leads to disagreement because one wants to do something completely different from the other, you can still opt for the democratic route (both are allowed to choose something). Apart from the democratic path, you could of course also choose something yourself that you think has added value because it would be educational or fun. I could imagine that a jungle trip in the North is exciting and also educational (getting to know tribes) for them. Anyway, well-intentioned and creative advice from someone without children 🙂

      Dear Jules,

Frankly, I'm a bit surprised by your message/question. Have two daughters of my own (now adults) and always had a very busy job with traveling very far. We used the children's holiday for family quality time. We tried to do as much as possible together, fun trips, two weeks on “vacation” and so on. Sit down with your family and discuss what to do. You also don't have to be completely focused on your boys for two months, but make a nice schedule that if you don't have a week or so to spare the boys have something to look forward to.

If possible I would travel around with the sons. Preferably the type of trip for which much has to be sorted out by the sons themselves and where you can spend the night in simple hostels. That can be in Thailand, in Asia, in Europe, anywhere. I have the fondest memories of a Tour de France in a small rental car, an even smaller tent, staying on simple campsites municipales (provided there is no sea or swimming pool, there is room even in high season). My son (then 13) had to map out the route and indicate what he wanted to see. It was amazing. I am merely giving France as an example. Could also very well be Thailand. In the end, it's about discovering together.

No summer school? then probably something else for extra bahtjes
Also no family where they can stay? and 2 months is much too long, so ours go 1x summer school and 1 with dad to frogland ff cold suffer

Maybe a gap in the market to organic something for this target group!

If children of that age cannot entertain themselves and the countless children's attractions around Pattaya or a little further away, see eg
https://www.thailandblog.nl/thailand-tips/kinderattracties-thailand offer no solution, well, then I would dump them with grandma in the Isaan for a while.

    Dear Jules,
You wrote that ALL suggestions are welcome, so here it is:
You live in Jomtien so the sea is nearby, I would take the boys to the beach, maybe they'll like it. I read that there is a very nice botanical garden south of Jomties. Then you can alternate beach and nature. Moreover, you tell them that they are changing schools, which also means new books. If you went to school in the Netherlands, you used to have to cover your books. Well, you can teach them that too, they are still too young before the pub. A day trip to Bangkok is also interesting for 13 and 15 year olds. How about the Skytrain; if you don't change stations you can traverse the entire Th Bth Bangkok for few. And a day in the hinterland of Jomtien; see if there are offers for golf clinic. There are plenty of golf courses and with a day of golf they are off the street!
I have like 50 more tips. If you want to know, ask the editor or moderator for my email address and I will spoil you with tips. I was also a father, so I know a little more.
    Good luck with your sons

I would send them to a summer camp where they learn to glide. Most guys think it's cool.

Just search the internet for 20, 50 or 100 things to do in Thailand, Bangkok Pattaya. Another job in the supermarket??

I find this a strange question somewhere… what to do with the kids during the holidays? This then in a typical holiday country like Thailand, with on top of that still living by the sea. I do understand that you want to keep the boys off the street, but that you don't know what to do with them I find extremely strange, especially now in this current era that offers enormous possibilities. Get a little creative and you'll get it right.
Worst case, if you really can't find anything, send them here, there is enough to do on the 65 rai palm oil plantation to keep them busy for 2 months without any problem. They will have learned something and also earned a nice penny on top of it. The sea is close by and they can spend their free time there.
