Hallo,

I am looking for beautiful (nature) places above Chiang Rai. In the neighborhood I already know Chiang Dao, Faang, Thaa Ton and Mae Salong.

Does anyone have any good tips, possibly with nice guesthouses.

Bedankt,

Harry

Try the area around Chiang Khong. Especially putchi fa. Beautiful surroundings/nature. Then at New Year's Eve it is busy with tourists and Thai people. Furthermore, a trip to Myanmar. Mae sai. Greetings Henk

Another alternative is Chiang Saen. The areas around it are for a reasonable part "managed" by the driving forces behind the website mentioned below.

It is a very beautiful area in which the number of birds is quite high, especially at this time of the year. You can read about it at http://yonokwetlands.awardspace.com/

I have traveled a lot in this area. I really enjoyed two trips. Along the river Kok in a westerly direction, and as already mentioned: Chiang Saen (the Mekhong!) and south to Phu Chi Faa ('The mountain that points to the sky'). I find Mae Sai and Myanmar very boring. You have to find Guest Houses yourself, there are plenty.

I travel to Mesai every three months and take the opportunity to spend a few days up north with my girlfriend. You may find some interesting information in the video below.
