Reader question: Who has a nice tip for an excursion in Bangkok?
Dear readers,
We are going next to Thailand for the 5th time in January. We will stay in Bangkok again for a few days. Now we have already seen the most important sights and have also booked a bike tour.
Do you have any tips for us to make a nice trip or other nice tips? We would like to hear it.
Regards,
Emerald
A culinary tour in Bangkok , highly recommended . We had booked this through 333travel.
A few suggestions:
–Ancient City
– Erawan Museum
—Phutthamonthon
–Rose Garden
I can wholeheartedly recommend the Ancient City (Muang Boran), it is a beautiful park, a kind of open-air museum. Located in Samut Prakan, it is a nice day trip from Bangkok. In Muang Boran you can tour the park with a bicycle and see Thailand in one day. I believe there is also a little train running through the park these days. It may sound a bit dull, but it really is a beautiful attraction that, in my opinion, deserves much more attention.
Loy Nava dinner cruise, a 2 hour evening cruise on the Chao Phraya river, with delicious food, dancing and a good host.
On Fri/Sat/Sunday: a combi tour to the Mae Klong train market/ Amphawa floating market.
On your own or on a tour: by train to Mahachai (Samut Sakhon), an authentic Thai town with a nice fish/spice market, old harbour, temples, etc.
On Sat/Sunday the Klong Lat Mayom floating market, a real Thai floating market, with many locals and especially a lot of food!
Thank you! What great tips! We also visit Bangkok for the 4th time. We also like to walk over the flowers and food market. Awesome. Remains beautiful.
My idea (often done with surprised friends:) take the MRT underground to Hua Lamphong. Take exit 1. Go straight on the street as much as possible and go to the Wat Tramitr nearby, within walking distance. A museum about the history of the Chinese in Thailand is a beautiful gem. It is located in the middle of the marble mountain of steps that forms the Wat Tramitr on the edge of Chinatown. Then eat delicious dim sum on Yaowarat street and, where possible, walk into the small, sometimes one-person wide alleys and enjoy (and "get lost") in the beauty of an authentic part of Thailand (also great for souvenirs). Return to your hotel from the pier on Rachawong Street. There, turn left to the Sapan Taksin stop and take the BTS skytrain back to your hotel area. Have fun!
Have a look at this site: http://bangkokfoodtours.com/
We have also been coming to Thailand with our family for many years, starting with a few days in Bangkok. Our kids like to shop, so that fills the first few days. In the meantime we have also seen all the temples and other tourist attractions. Also cycled.
Last year we walked together a 7-course dinner in Chinatown with a guide. This was great fun. There are several other great tours on the above site.
Happy Holidays!
The excursion train to Nam Tok. Only runs on weekends and you can book in advance at Hua Lamphong. This special train runs over the RIver Kwai Bridge all the way to the end of the Burma line where you can eat and relax. Stops are made at various places along the way. In the evening the train returns to the station in Bangkok.
Very nice trip if you like train travel!
(let) Reservation is highly recommended 2 to 3 sometimes more weeks in advance already fully booked.
I could just buy a ticket for the next day last Friday, and Sunday was also still possible.
You have probably already done a klong tour, but also rent a private long tail (Taksin Pier, accessible by Sky Train, Silom Line) not expensive and it will take you to any desired destination. A "must" if you haven't done it yet is a visit to the "Royal Barrges" the royal rowing boats that only go into the water on special occasions. In the middle of the ChiaoPrao is a small island of Koh Kret (potters' island) here you can buy excellent Benjarong porcelain. It is nice to enjoy the enormous tranquility here in the middle of Bangkok, have a drink and walk around the entire island in just under 20 minutes, before you continue sailing.
Have a good holiday and have fun, from a dry and sunny Patong (Phuket)
Paul Schiphol
When I have friends over from the Netherlands I always go for a beer with them in the evening in the Vertigo Bar, on top of the Banyan Tree hotel in Sathorn: 71 floors of which you have to walk the last two. Beautiful view of all of Bangkok. Success assured.
Safari World a must see!!! Totally awesome!! Just take a day off!
Opening hours I think from 10 to 5 in the afternoon
Definitely not Beekse Bergen!
The train day tour can be booked at Greenwoodtravel.nl in Bangkok. The train goes through markets, almost the living rooms of the people who then quickly remove their belongings when the train arrives. There is also a nice boat trip.
Booking the train at greenwodtravel is simply not necessary.
Just arrange yourself. Greenwoodtravel really adds nothing to this trip.
The costs you incur are approximately 30 Baht one way. 20 Baht for 2 x train and boat across the river.
