Reader question: Can I go to Egypt with my Thai girlfriend?
Dear readers,
My girlfriend is Thai and will return to the Netherlands in 3,5 months. Now we want to go on holiday to Egypt with my family. I have read that a Thai needs a visa for that. We cannot find much about it on the internet and have no idea whether it is possible to apply for a second visa…
Does anyone have experience with this or do you have an idea how I can fix this?
I would like to hear from you. Thank you in advance!
Regards,
Marnix
I would say the easiest way is to ask the Egyptian embassy:
Laan van New East Indies 1E 2593 BH The Hague
Email: info(@)visuminfo.nl
Or call: 070 3 456 985
There is no such thing as a “second visa”. With a visa you request permission to travel to a country for the purpose of admission for a certain period. And whether someone wants to go to 1 country or 10, it doesn't matter.
Check whether the visa for the Netherlands (Schengen) is a multiple entry, otherwise you will have a problem when you return from Egypt.
I think she should have a multi-entry visa.
i once had my thai girlfriend come to cairo for vacation.
she just has to buy a visa at the airport upon arrival, just like you.
note… it is always very busy.
But normally no problems.
success with it
Marnix,
just inquire at the Egyptian embassy. Your question actually has little to do with Thailand.

Visa requirements for Thai, take a look at this link:

In 2010 I made a trip to Egypt with my then girlfriend from China. She had a Chinese passport and therefore also needed a visa. I then called the Egyptian embassy in The Hague (Badhuisweg) and I was able to get a visa for my girlfriend there. Hand in your passport + passport photos, fill in the form, wait for an hour and pick up your passport with the visa stuck in it. Just call the embassy; you will be greeted in a friendly manner and helped. For the contact details: https://egypt.visahq.nl/embassy/netherlands/
I don't know if it's still that easy, but if you call them you will hear it automatically.
An (important) addition to my post of 13:31:
If your girlfriend first comes to the Netherlands with a Schengen visa, you must make sure that it is a "Multi-entry" visa. If you go back to the Netherlands after your Egypt trip, then she must be entitled to do so via the Schengen "Multi-entry" visa. If she comes with a “single-entry” visa, you cannot leave the Schengen area for Egypt and then come back to the Netherlands.
1.
First of all, there is no such thing as a second visa, even if you have ten. Visa from country A gives access to one area, a visa from country B gives access to another. With the exception of hassle around Israel (Israel and countries in the region there), it does not matter which / how many visas or travel stamps you have.
---
2. Do Thais need a visa for Egypt?
Yes, it seems that way. The KLM website has a tool that allows you to check the travel conditions. Many companies use this database. It may not be 100% correct because it does not contain all special scenarios, but it can be trusted for standard scenarios.
See:
https://klm.traveldoc.aero

3. So assuming that she is required to have a visa: can she get the visa in the Netherlands or does it have to be done in Thailand? Various countries require that a foreign national obtains the visa in the country of origin. For example, a regular Thai national who is on holiday in the Netherlands or Belgium cannot arrange a visa for the UK here in Europe (unless there are grounds for exception such as a family member who is an EU/EEA national, etc). So it is best not to go out and arrange this for her in the Netherlands for a while.
I would first try to arrange the visa in Thailand because then she can arrange the necessary supporting documents more easily than once she is away from home. And it also saves 'wasting' a holiday here in Europe.
For questions/appointments, let your girlfriend or yourself contact the Egyptian embassy.
Bangkok:
Read. Colinas Building 42nd Floor, 6 Sukhumvit 21.

(-or, but the latter seems incorrect -Sukhumvit 63, Ekamai)

4. If, after a visit to the Netherlands, she wants to return to the Netherlands from Egypt instead of flying on to Thailand: Make sure that her Schengen visa is a multiple entry (MEV). This is the case in 99% of the visas issued by the Netherlands, but you should still check whether there is MULT on the visa sticker for the number of entries. Of course you also check whether the visa is still valid for a sufficiently long time (expiry date) and whether it does not exceed the 'maximum stay of 90 days in any period of 180 days'. But you may already know this or you can consult the Schengen file in the menu on the left of this blog.
If she wants to go from Thailand to the Netherlands to Egypt to Thailand: arrange this in advance with the tickets so that it is clear to all border guards and flight personnel that she has connecting journeys to leave the country in time. Otherwise you can bet that they say that they cannot see that she is leaving NL or Egypt again and then they can sometimes be difficult or refuse entry.
---
Finally: lots of puzzle fun and we wish you an even better journey!
Let us know how everything went? That can be fun and useful for others with similar plans.
I come across 2 addresses for the embassy in BKK. I assume that your sweetheart has not fallen on her mouth and can try these numbers / data:
1.
Address: no. 6, Las Colinas Building, 42nd Fl. Sukhumvit 21 (Soi Asoke), Bangkok 10110
Tel: 0-2262-0236 & (+662)6617184- 2620236
2. It seems wrong, but this is what the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) indicates:
Address: Sorachai Building, 31st Floor,
23/122-125 Sukhumvit 63
(Ekamai), Khlong Tan Nuea,
Watthana, Bangkok 10110
Phone: 0 2726 9831-3
And third googlemaps indicates another address at Sukhumvit 63….
You may like to arrange everything in the Netherlands (do not forget that she is the visa applicant and not you for her), but if that is also possible, it would be nice if both the embassy staff in The Hague and in Bangkok confirm this. If there were conflicting stories, I would definitely let her arrange everything in BKK. With similar stories, do what seems practical to you if you are sure that she can also show all the necessary papers to the Egyptians in the Netherlands.
Thank you all for the responses and all the information. I definitely have something to do with this!!!
Regards, Marnix
