Dear readers,

I am looking for Thai traffic regulations in English or Dutch. I am in possession of a Belgian International Driving Permit. I live permanently in Thailand.

I went to the 'driving licenses' department in Ubon Ratchathani to inquire about the exchange of the International driving licence. However, the regulations for this have recently changed. I should have the driver's license translated and legalized. The Belgian embassy cannot help me because I have not yet been deregistered from the population registers and because my driving license has been issued in Belgium. Because this is quite a job, I just want to get my Thai driver's license like a Thai does. With an exam!

That is why I am looking for a book or website in which the entire Thai legislation is described in English (Dutch is probably impossible).

I'm already driving around here with a car, so I know how people drive here and know the practice! It is completely different from the theory. But to get a driver's license you must of course know the theory. My wife is a good mentor and teaches me the rules, but I want to know everything before I go to the exam center!

Who can help me?

khop khun khrap in advance!

Long Johnny

    Hi,
The Thai traffic regulations can be found on Thailaws.com. Unfortunately, this website is not working now. If you provide your email address (whether or not via the editors), I can send you the English PDF.

    Hi Loeng Johnny.

I also did a normal driving test first time for theory, failed for driving on the track because everything was explained in Thai. What I did not understand and missed the concrete agility bar and so failed. The second time I was completely on top of everything. height and obtained my Thai driving license for motorbike and then for the car. The theoretical part is just logical thinking. Never looked into a book in Thailand. Good luck with it.

I drive every holiday in Thailand. very simple, pay close attention to the signs and stay to the left, the rules are the same as in a European country, only 99% of Thais know nothing about them (know nothing about traffic rules)
if you really want to know take the exam.
damn well pay attention I've prevented an accident at least four times
despite the rules you are farang so the institution in thailand is you have to pay..
I had a girl in Pattaya who drove my sister-in-law's car, so I was the driver
she was wrong she knew that, suddenly mama san the girl madam gets involved i was a thai with my wife so i started swearing and ranting in english.
I said to call the police, then the madam left, I did have the girl taken care of In terms of wounds.
I gave her 1000 Bath and then was done, so pay attention

I got my Thai driver's license in December without taking the exam.
I live in the Netherlands and am married to a Thai woman.

1 I went to immigration with my Thai wife with a Dutch passport, driver's license and what they call the yellow book. There we received documents with which I could arrange my Thai driver's license.

2 Then to the amphur for my Thai driver's license. When I got there they asked for a translation of my driver's license which I didn't have. She told me that it had to be translated by the embassy.

3 We then went to another amphur and they said we could also have the translation done at The Mall in Korat. Sits on the second floor next to the High school.

4 We return with the translation and the immigration documents. After 3 types of eyes test and 1 for reaction speed, I received my Thai driver's license for 2 years for both car and motobike (moped was on my driver's license).

I recommend always calling immigration first for the necessary papers because as I understand it is not the same everywhere. It also differs per amphur.

    Succes

    Hello Johnny,

I got my driver's license here in Ubon 2 to 3 months ago. A good thing that you want to know the rules, but it won't help you much with some questions. The questions are not properly translated and even mistranslated. If you do the theory you can look at your mistakes afterwards and try to remember what they think is the right answer, because there are different tests but there are only a limited number of questions, so these questions come up regularly, even in the same test. You can take the test twice in the same day.
    Good luck

    John,

On YouTube you have a video DVD with traffic rules in Thai with English subtitles
You have to watch the entire video

I was able to pick up my Thai motorcycle and car license at the exam room near Pattaya.
Had to bring some forms in advance, including a doctor's statement (100 Baht in 2 minutes).
No theoretical exam, because I already had a NL International driving license ..
Just a color test, a reaction/brake test with that old fashioned pedal/light system and that was it.
Pay and valid for a year because I had a tourist visa for 4 months.
Renewal was also only possible for 1 year for the same reason.
If you have an annual visa, you can extend the driving license for 1 years after 5 year.
It will take you a few hours, but that will fly by, because there are plenty of food stalls to eat and drink.
