Dear readers,
I learned that it is easy to get a Thai driver's license if you can provide a valid foreign and international driver's license. And of course also certificate of residence and a doctor's statement.
Because I have been living in Thailand since the end of 2015, I asked my brother to go to the ANWB for me. I sent him my original driver's license and passport photos. Wasn't a problem. The document is now in an envelope and on its way to me.
However, because my Dutch driver's license is valid until February 28, that is also the end date for the international driver's license. Now I assume that I will receive the 24 driving licenses here in Thailand around January 2. They are then only valid for one month.
Does anyone know if there is a minimum validity period to get a Thai driver's license without having to take the exams?

I do not think so. There are, by the way, a number of tests associated with "obtaining" a Thai driving license, such as a reaction test, a color test and an eye test. In addition, for your MOTOR driving license, you still have to take a theory exam on the computer. nowadays, where you have to get 45 out of 50 questions right.

At the end of December I tried to convert my International Driving Permit into a Thai Driving Permit. First had to go to Bangkok to get a certificate of authenticity from the Dutch embassy. I live on Samui 5 months a year. I'll see if I can get that certificate next time I'm in Bangkok. By the way, I recently read on this blog that nowadays you have to get all the questions right to pass the exam.
At the beginning of this month my wife and I both int. receive a driver's license.
Because we want to buy a car, we went to immigration last week to ask for permission.
Received form and then went to local hospital for health clearance.
This without inspection but 50 Bath expenses.
Then went to the office to apply for a Thai driver's license.
We were immediately invited for the reaction / color test (really nothing).
Then take the results to the counter. 305 Bath paid half an hour and received driver's license.

ask “permission” at immigration to buy a car??? How do you do that? I also bought a car in my own name, but I did not need 'permission' from immigration for this. To register the new car and obtain a license plate, I did need a residence document from immigration, but not 'permission' to buy a car.
I had my Dutch driver's license translated in Thailand plus a statement from the immigration and then to the transport office. There a reaction eyes and color test was done. I immediately received my Thai driver's license, valid for 2 years. You also need a statement from your accommodation, etc. You can also go to the transport office first, then they will tell you exactly what you need. My International driving license was pushed aside everywhere, is only useful in case of traffic control or accident.
All this arranged during vacation, I live in the Netherlands.
I had my Dutch driving license converted last October
in a Thai driving license – car and motorcycle
only had to have proof of home address and doctor's certificate,

Just go to a driving school. They help you with the translation of your Dutch driving license into Thai. They also provide a medical certificate. It cost me a total of 4500 Thb. A theory exam is not necessary, but you do have to follow a TV lesson in Thai for 1 hour, so you can sleep well for an hour. You have to do the reaction, eye and color test + determine a test distance. Passport photos are not necessary. A representative from the driving school accompanied me to the transport center and arranged everything for me. So great. The international driver's license is not required. Good luck.
I recently got my Thai motorcycle and car license on Samui. Since I couldn't provide a certificate of authenticity (even though I had an international driver's license) I had to do all the theoretical and practical tests. The site of the NL embassy in Bangkok states that there is no longer a certificate of authenticity available there and a link refers to the RDW. Download the application form and send it with a copy of your driver's license or passport. You will receive the statement at your address in Thailand within max. 3 weeks. My wife wants to get her Thai car license in this way, of course with the other necessary documents. However, she will have to do the reaction and the two eyes tests.

Then a few things have changed in the meantime. I got my Thai driver's license in Pattaya 2 years ago and then I was asked for a driver's license and I gave my Dutch one to which the Thai lady said that's not how I had to do it. first to the embassy. After which I gave her my international driver's license and then she gave me a number and then I only had to test the eyes and the reaction test. After that I was told I got my motorcycle paper on which I said sorry car, he said motorcycle I no car and he went to the went to registration desk and it changed and told me to pay there and then given the Thai's driver's license. My Thai wife had a wait of many weeks and we went north to make it in a week.
