Thailand question: EVA Air flights arriving late?

Dear readers,

A while back someone had a comment about the EVA Air flights from BKK to AMS arriving late. Conversely, this naturally has consequences for the return flight to BKK. I checked flight BR76 on flight radar from December 1 and almost every flight was delayed. Some half an hour, but most arrived more than an hour late. There was even one with a delay of more than two hours.

The tickets still say that people arrive around 14:30 PM so the schedules have remained as they were and the delays are starting to become structural. I have no idea what the cause is? I don't think this has anything to do with the jet stream?

February 1 I have to pick up family in BKK, I wonder how much later they will arrive.

Regards,

Ferdinand P.I

Yesterday at the trade day of the Vakantiebeurs, I made some inquiries about this with Cyriel Oude Hengel (Head – Sales & Marketing at EVA Air Netherlands). He didn't really give an explanation but it mainly had to do with the fact that the plane always leaves too late from Taiwan.
He also reported that from March 2023 they will fly again with the Boeing 777-300ER on the Schiphol-Bangkok-Taipei route. This also brings back the popular Premium Economy class. But that is not news because we have already reported on Thailandblog.
Also talked to him about the high ticket prices, but that is a matter of the increased demand. The planes are full. He expects those high ticket prices to remain for some time to come.

It's not just Eva .. many airlines have delays on both outward and return flights .. may have to do with loading and unloading luggage at the airport .. delays in refueling the planes ,, problems with passengers ... long check-in times. In Thailand itself, even on short domestic flights, I regularly have delays of 20 minutes to an hour… one consolation, you are not waiting in the rain 😉

On January 3, I flew back with eva air from Bangkok to Amsterdam with a delay of more than 1 hour. Cause the aircraft did not depart from Taipei until 1 hour later. I had already understood from previous reports that the delays on the Bangkok-Amsterdam flight in particular are becoming structural, which are apparently always caused by late departures from Taipei. It is incomprehensible to me that an airline cannot solve this recurring problem!

You write: I have to pick up family in BKK on February 1, I wonder how much later they will arrive.

I advise you to be alert to how much later than planned the plane will take off, and to calculate this into the arrival time.

The topic starter is apparently well aware of the 'flightradar' website. So it is indeed a small trick to calculate the time of arrival based on the departure time. Then he immediately knows when he can expect his family in Suvarnabhumi at the earliest. How you didn't come up with that yourself.

Thank you for your sympathy, but when I get up in the morning I check at what time the plane left Amsterdam.. then it is a simple calculation to know around what time it will arrive in BKK..
I have to drive 4 hours to get there, so I will manage.

      Greetings

Arrived 3 hours late with Eva in Bangkok
Just then my flight with Thai airways took off to Phuket.
    Missed of course
Have to book a new ticket with bkk airways 154 euros

Complaint lodged with the travel agency
    I'm curious

According to EU Regulation 261/2004, in your case you are only entitled to compensation if your flight is delayed by 4 hours or more. If the connecting flight has been booked as a separate ticket, the company will not take any responsibility for this.
Incidentally, I also arrived an hour or two late at BKK, at the end of November, also with EVA. luckily the connecting flight was delayed by an hour, otherwise I would have had to look for a hotel…..

My flight was indeed delayed by an hour on Tuesday this week, but luckily I was able to catch my onward flight to Ubon on time.
As far as prices are concerned, it's pretty much in the direction of 'priceless' holidays!
I flew back from Th on December 17th and the business class was occupied for 30/40%.
I wanted to purchase an upgrade at the Ticket desk for this outward flight, but the business was full.
    Good trade, I thought.
In the plane I still walked “forward” to inquire whether I might still be able to get a business seat just for the outward flight a la minute.
Yes, you could do the math, and for an additional payment of $ 1750,= could I accept that proposal?
    I didn't think so!

We arrived on January 01st and were more than 1 hour late. What we found much worse was the cramped space in the plane. The seats were arranged 3.4.3 and the aisles were therefore much narrower. To make matters worse, my husband and I had sagging seats. We've been flying with Eva for years, but we're done with it now..
I would like to hear about other travelers' experiences with KLM

Didn't you fly the Boeing 787 then? It has a 3-3-3 formation in economy. But I had the same disappointing experience in late November when it came to sitting on EVA's 787. Hardly any legroom - nothing more than in a short-haul budget airline - so that as soon as the person in front of you folds back their seat back, you are obliged to do so too. If you don't do it, your nose will almost touch the screen. Well, for more than 1700 euros for a return ticket, you shouldn't have too high expectations.
It was the first time I flew with Eva economy because the premium economy class is not offered on this aircraft, but I won't make that mistake again….

You may have to book your ticket a little longer in advance, which saves a lot (800 including seat reservation). We flew to bkk with Eva on Jan 5 (almost 2 hours delay!) also in economy while we normally also fly premium to I thought it was not too bad. Was lucky that the person in front of me left his chair upright.

        • Cornelis says up

I know Hans, but the last time I was unfortunately only able to book about ten days before departure for various reasons……. I flew business class with Singapore Airlines in February for the amount mentioned.

        Hi Cornelius
I know about the economy premium class change.. This will come back in March or April when they will fly to Amsterdam again with the Boeing 777. A friend from the Netherlands has also been flying with Eva for years and has booked the flight via London this time. As a result, he was able to book the premium class and he liked that despite the somewhat longer travel time.

And yes, the ticket prices are a thing.
Because he could book well in advance, the price for the premium class was € 1285 return.

I now live permanently in Thailand and now I have to deal with visitors from the Netherlands more often.
I myself will not fly that often anymore.

Have fun with your cycling adventures in the North

          Hi Ferdinand,
Yes, I know they will be flying the 777 later this year. Their Premium Economy is simply very good, but economy in the 787 was very disappointing to me. To be honest, that actually makes me dread the return journey a bit...
With Emirates you are a lot more spacious in the A380 and therefore more comfortable in economy, but then you have to make another transfer

          I've done the same.
Departure December 4 via London with British Airways from Amsterdam.
With EVA in primum to BKK.
Back April 4 straight to AMS with EVA in prime.
Booked about 3-4 weeks in advance, of course much too late. I paid €1125,-
          and I think that's reasonable.
For your information, British Airways is responsible for the transfer.
I had a transfer time of 3 hours.
I am and will remain a satisfied EVA customer, despite the fact that there is something to criticize.

Departed on January 7 with an hour and a half, finally arrived in Bangkok with an hour delay. What bothered me was the limited space. Not used to Eva, was always advertising them, but I'll stop with that.

  9. sjefke says up

In the premium class, up to a certain point, I don't mind if the person in front of me moves his or her seat back a little. But I don't accept that in economy, and I don't do it myself either. We all pay a hefty amount and I'm not going to be left with blue knees because someone else wants to sit comfortably. Then they think of me the wrong way, a bit of each other...

Solutions such as Flight Radar have already been given, but I always wonder why such a question. We live in the year 2023. The flight time does not change, but the departure time does, so someone on the other side can also indicate via Line, Whatsapp or Uber that they are going to leave.
30 years ago there was no internet as we know it today, and other conveniences as well.
Life is not made more difficult, but apparently there is still some teaching to be done.
