Thailand question: Can I reclaim the VAT?

Dear readers,

My wife (Thai) and I have been living in Thailand for several years. Now we regularly receive a bill from the Netherlands (the work was carried out in the Netherlands or a product was purchased in the Netherlands). The VAT is stated on the invoice, so when I have paid the invoice, the VAT has also been paid.

Can I reclaim this from the Dutch tax authorities and how should I do this?

Regards,

Sjaak

    Interesting question Jack!

I am a small entrepreneur myself, and I think the tax authorities give the following options for a refund:

    1) regardless of where you live, only if you use the product or service for business, i.e. via your [own] company.

    2) provided you live outside the EU and you buy a product [so does not apply to a service] and you request the seller's cooperation in advance to help reclaim the VAT and this procedure follows. Asking afterwards without the cooperation of the seller is therefore not possible:

to keep it simple. To start with, it must be carried out outside the EU. Services are difficult to perform, so that will no longer be the case.
There is a minimum of €50. You cannot add up the different suppliers. And it's quite a bit of work for the life insurance provider too. He will also charge a price for the extra services he has to provide. Probably won't yield much all in all.

Sjaak, what I remember is that you have to prove that you imported it into the other country. There you have to pay the Thai VAT (7%) and possibly import duty. And with all the time you have lost and travel costs: have you earned anything?
