Dear readers,

I live in Thailand and the tax return is arranged through a Dutch company, so no time wasted by the mail from Thailand to the Netherlands. I submitted my tax return on March 1, 2021 to the Dutch tax authorities. So this happened faster than the April 1 date indicated by the tax authorities.

Now I received a provisional assessment from the tax inspector in June 2021 and the statement that I will receive the final assessment later when the inspector has checked everything. But now I still have not received a final assessment and no refund from the national insurance schemes, I can quickly see this on my Dutch bank account.

I think this will take a very long time before I receive the final assessment and the refund of the national insurance schemes.

What is the experience of other Dutch people living in Thailand?

Regards,

Sjaak

I completed and submitted my tax form online at the beginning of March. Received notice and payment at the beginning of June. It was also a final determination. So no complaints

I also received a final assessment for the first time.

    Dear Jack,

I have some Dutch pensioners in Thailand as clients.
After I have won a procedure regarding tax residence in Thailand and the related exemption from withholding wage tax on company pension, I quickly submit the returns. However, the final attacks are a long time coming. This is not a problem if the provisional assessments are imposed in accordance with the tax returns. If the provisional assessments deviate from the tax return, a separate request for reduction can be submitted. This is usually responded to quickly by imposing an adjusted provisional assessment on the basis of which the refund resulting from the tax return is paid out quickly. Waiting for a final assessment is then no longer disturbing.

If it has to be checked by the inspector, it could take years. I have been waiting 1,5 years for the final assessment for 2019. (A letter from the tax authorities stated that it will be completed within 3 years in any case.)

Sjaak, income tax and national insurance have been levied on the same assessment for many years, so a national insurance assessment no longer exists. You have had a provisional assessment; if it deviates from what your advisor has specified, you can, as Gerritsen says, have a request made.

But do you possibly not mean the national insurance (AOW, ANW, WLZ) but the income-related health insurance premium (ZVW) that has been wrongly withheld? You will only get this back if you submit a request for it and your advisor will probably have the forms for that on the shelf.
