Reader Question: Thailand Tourist Visa with Double Entry

Dear editors,

I'm a little hesitant about booking my flight because of the following: I'm a Divemaster and would like to do my instructor training. Then I would like to book a return ticket from November 20 and March 20 back. If I then apply for a double entry visa, can I just book this or do I have to leave the country after 60 days and also book a flight for this? I don't think so, but because of my doubts, I'd like to ask this question anyway, to avoid problems.

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

Nick

Dear Nick,

I assume you mean a Tourist Visa with Double Entry? To activate the 2nd entry of your Tourist visa, and therefore the next 60 days, you will have to leave the country. With the first entry you can stay for a maximum of 60 days, so you must have left Thailand on the 60th day at the latest. Check the Arrival stamp when you have to leave Thailand at the latest, because that is the only date that counts.

This is allowed but not necessary with a flight. You can also make the overland visa run and you will also receive the 60 days. A person holding a visa, whether entering through an airport or through a land border, will receive the number of days allotted for that visa. In your case, 60 days per entry. Only when you enter Thailand on the basis of Visa Exemption is there a difference between a land border and the airport. For us Dutch and Belgians this means – Via the airport that is 30 days and via a land border this is 15 days.

I did some calculations and your schedule is very sharp. I'd keep a close eye on it. If you are short of days, you can always request an extension of 30 days on your Tourist visa. You can apply for this at the Immigration Office. Another possibility is that you make a visa run of a few days. So you stay in the other country for a few days instead of immediately returning to Thailand.

Also keep in mind the validity period of the visa. In principle, that will not be a problem since the validity period will be 6 months, but make sure that you make the 2nd entry before the end of the validity period of your Tourist visa. So do not make your application for a Tourist visa too early because of the 2nd entry, and keep in mind that your passport must be valid for another 9 months.

You can also read it in Visa file or via the following link: www.royalthaiconsulateamsterdam.nl/visa-service/visum-aanvragen
