Reader question: From Thailand to Bali, visa or not?
Dear readers,
The many sites I've searched don't really give me a clear answer. I am Dutch, have been living in Thailand for years (passport is issued from Bangkok) and I am going on holiday to Bali. As a Dutch person you have to buy a tourist visa at the airport of Bali, a Thai does not. Now on some sites it says: resident of Thailand and on others: Thai nationality.
Anyone with experience with that? Assume that my nationality is the deciding factor.
With kind regards,
Ko
Your NL-shelf determines - bring cash US$ in the correct amount, it used to be a choice between 10 or 30 days, but it is now only for 30 days (or 1 month). AND you must be able to show an OUT ticket! This is strictly controlled in Bali. First buy a visa sticker, then join the most enormously long queue for a check. There is an exemption for ASEAN.
Check immediately whether you still have to pay cash airport tax on your return flight and if so, how much.
Hello Ko I also went from Thailand to Bali with my wife 2 years ago.
When entering Bali you must purchase a visa at the counter on the left before passport control. My wife, who is Thai, was able to go to the right side in another line and does not need a visa and goes through security there.
30 or 35 dollars and when leaving 150.000 rupiah
On arrival in Bali 35 US dollars per person and on departure 100.000 rupiah per person. Passport must be valid for at least 6 months after departure and remember to arrange re-entry for Thailand before departure if applicable
Your Dutch passport is the criterion and you can currently buy a visa sticker at the airport for $35. You do need a return ticket and your passport must be valid for 6 months after the departure date stated in your ticket. If you have a Thai partner, you can come along because people with a Thai passport are exempt and get free access to Indonesia, but make sure that the passport is valid for 6 months after leaving Bali. If you book well in advance, Air Asia has good deals on tickets. Have fun in Bali.
As a Dutch citizen living in Thailand, you will receive a visa “on arrival” on Bali!
Until now the costs were 25,- Dollar pp.
Hi ko .
Last year I also went to Bali with my Thai wife.
Yes you can buy visa at Bali airport. And yes your Thai wife does not need one.
But both have to pay the airport tax on departure, so to speak. Thought it was $25 .
So make sure you have dollars. On arrival there is an ATM for some Indonesian money. .
But as far as visas are concerned . I was refused by Air asia at the counter to check in because I didn't have a visa And believe me I really tried everything at that moment. But an airline has the right to refuse you, because otherwise they have to take you back for free, if you don't get a visa in Bali
It ended up that I flew to Bali the next day. Visa in Bangkok arranged at the embassy. Takes about 3 hours. Just fill it out and pay. You can then pick it up later. Please apply in the morning
Had a nice week in Bali. . Beautiful island .
Gr Peter Ubon
Just come from there.
Arrival tax is now 35 US dollars per person or equivalent amount in euros or other currency.
Any change will be returned in Indonesian rupiahs.
departure tax ; to pay in rupiahs is now 200.000.- per person.
Thai passport holders do not pay arrival tax, but they do pay departure tax.
there is no escape.
Each passport must also be valid for at least 6 months after the date of departure.
If that is not the case, then you have a huge problem when you leave.
Have fun there.
I regularly fly from Bangkok to Bali. You can buy a visa for 8 or 30 days at the airport.
Come, when you leave, really not a day late, because then the payment is blown. You also have to pay airport tax
There are several counters, so the wait is not too bad. Remember that it is very busy on that Phuket-like island. Almost naked girls' butts can be seen in abundance in the streets and on the beach.
If you want a taxi, arrange it at a counter immediately at the exit. Those are fixed prices.
Arie and Gerard are both wrong.
100% sure ; upon arrival 35 US$
On departure 200 thousand rupiah, both amounts per person.
Also do not go to the taxi counter, much too expensive,
just walk out ignoring everything and everyone (they want
everyone sell something etc) and take the "blue bird" taxi and then drive on the meter,
just like in bangkok.
Furthermore, you really don't see almost naked girls' butts in the streets,
as Gerard claims, sheer nonsense.
On the beach, yes, but you see that everywhere at all
beaches worldwide.
Phuket and Bali are two completely different islands, not at all
comparable.
Bali , 85% Hindu and Phuket mainly Buddhism and partly
Muslim.

thanks for the responses. Eee is clear to me now. So as already thought. Hotel and flight tickets have already been booked, so no problem. Hotel picks us up (for free). Stay in Sanur, which is not comparable to Kuta. Sanur is still nice and quiet, was there a few times, years ago by the way!
