Dear readers,

I heard that near one of the water taxi stops on the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, there is a street lined with shops, stalls selling gemstones and jewellery. Does anyone know what stop that is?

Thanks in advance.

Whether this is what you mean, no idea. By the way, it is certainly not a water TAXI - those boats are bigger than buses. They don't go on the meter either. And it's not really close to a pier either.
This street is at right angles to the well-known KhaoSan road, and the BurgerKing is also located along it. Many shops-no stalls, mainly with silverware/jewellery and all kinds of ”beads”=hippie-like beads etc. Most only sell wholesale/no retail, so aimed at small traders. Also still a few Thai bridal shops - although there are fewer and fewer.
City buses such as 2,15,47,511,82,59,60,509,44 all stop along Ratchdamnen-net just around the corner and with them you can reach almost all parts of BKK. 100s taxis per minute.

Maybe you mean the area behind the shangri-la hotel.
From the main pier at Saphan Taksin.
Lots of beads, stones, chains, etc.

At the large post office there are many silver shops and shops where you can also buy precious stones.
The main post office is near China town. Also whole sale, but if you want a few pieces, you can also have jewelry made if you want something special.

Buying gemstones in Thailand is a risky business if you don't know anything about it. Especially in tourist areas, you will be fooled if you don't know what to look out for. They know that you are leaving the country and so it is quite easy to sell you something "wrong". If you have it examined by the jeweler a street away for value or authenticity, he will go with his colleague, and the other way around. Don't invest more than you are willing to lose.

Went to look for you in Chinatown this morning,
In the back there are at least twenty small jewelery shops with gemstones

You get there by getting off the boat in Chinatown, after five hundred meters on the right you have a very busy street, the so-called walking street, and you walk all the way down it, at the end you have all kinds of shoe shops, and when that ends you have the jewelry or gemstone shops
Hope that you find them useful
Maybe someone knows the correct name of that street
Greetings from a sweltering Bangkok Harrie
